what do you think?
i posted before about the teacher, student conflict. (see "this is messed up" that post has raised a few questions in my mind, and i am curious how everyone out there feels about it.
the question is....
"do you think that the child abuse laws have gotten out of hand? if so why?"
(my answer) i think that they have in a way. don't get me wrong i am ALL FOR people who beat their children to be locked up and beat themselves. but then there are people who have accusations made that are completely false, but still get investigated end up with a record with cps.
when lil red was 10 months old she was learning to walk, and had bruises from falling. (everywhere!) there was a woman who rhyun had to fire from the company he worked for, well she got pissed and called CPS on us and said that we were beating our daughter. so sure enough, they showed up at my house. luckily the caseworker could tell that it was a false claim. but because of that stupid woman,i had to take lil red to one of their doctors and get her examined, i had to have friend's of mine call and tell her that we don't beat our daughter. (that was hard for me, i had to tell friend's of mine that we were being investigated for child abuse!) the worst part about it is that if 10 years from now someone else makes a false allegation it will show that we have had an accusation made against us. (it will also show that there was nothing found thank goodness) i found out that in the state of florida someone can see me and lil red in the yard playing and call the hot line, report us, (even if they lie) and a CPS caseworker will be at my home within 24 hours.
maybe i'm just a little old fashioned or something, but i remember when if you did something wrong (even in public) you got your hand or your ass smacked. it just seems to me that with the new child abuse laws, while they ARE protecting children who are being abused, they are also preventing parents from being able to actually discipline their children, so they can grow up to be productive members of society. i get looks ALL the time in the grocery store with lil red. why? because if she does something wrong,i tell her NO then i smack her little hands. and of course she cries, and throws a fit. (she just turned 2 yesterday) but in my mind that is the way that you are supposed to raise a child. i have a very firm belief that if you don't have your child under control by the age of 2 or 3 you NEVER will.
but those are just my lengthy thoughts.. what are yours?

Re: what do you think?
Good points there, I know those laws were passed to protect some kids that were getting abuse, but they've let it get so far out of hand that you can't disipline your kid or make them do anything if they don't want to.This kind of shit is why we have 10 year olds committing murder, armed robbery ect., ect.

Fuckin lawyers... it's gotten so bad that anyday now I expect to see a ad on TV that says "Have you or a member of your family been within a 5 block area from someone who farted after they've eaten pickled eggs? If so you may be entitled to compensation. Call Freidman Law Offices for a free consultation. Let us get you the money you deserve"

Re: what do you think?
The government has made our personal, private business theirs. Because of a small percentage of people who are so unfit that they shouldn't even be allowed to own a hamster, let alone raise a child, all of us as parents have lost our rights and our privacy. The legislators have decided that government/law enforcement should be our baby sitters. This makes about as much sense as when we were children in school and one little kid did something wrong and the whole class was punished for it. Same stupid approach, but a hell of a lot more serious and damaging and another example of the erosion of our rights.

Ah! This is the kind of thing that makes me find socialogy so fascinating, interesting, but yet depressing as hell...
These are the kind of "methods" and such that are suppose to self-impose conformity to community, society, and yep....the big "G".....

not to mention it is the same method that the army uses in basic training etc.. if one person messed up we all got in trouble for it.

Re: what do you think?
We all know that this kind of 'big G' intrusion on our personal rights is wrong. But where and what the heck was anybody doing about it to try and stop it....So goes the old saying...'You reap what you sow' If no one speaks out or are just sheeple..we get what we deserve...

Re: what do you think?
you can't even take pictures of your own naked kid anymore without being reported as a child pornographer.

It's a good thing my mother has gone on to her little piece of Ireland in Heaven or she'd be in big trouble today. I remember in high school when I brought my girlfriend home for dinner with my parents and Mom liked her a lot and brought out some family albums including my baby pictures which of course included me smiling a big, goofy, toothless grin sans diaper or anything else and laying on a bath towel. They probably would haul her away today.

Re: what do you think?
I feel that everything is bassackwards now. I always thought that they had to prove that you did something, but if your accused of something, you have to prove that you didn't do anything.
My youngest tried that one, he smarted off to MA, and she slapped his mouth. He said that he was going to call the cops. Ma told him that would dial the phone for him, but he should ask for ambulance also. The youngest asked why the ambulance, Ma said "well if I'm going out of here in a squad car, your going out of here in a ambulance, then you'll know what child abuse is." he decided not to make the call.

i KNOW i shouldn't giggle at that, but i seem to remember having the SAME discussion with my grammy when i was a kid. (i lived with them most of my growing up years) fortunately i was smart enough NOT to call the cops.

My youngest have a good friend who was a cops in the area, so he figured that he try to get mom that way. His friend said that he was lucky, if he would have been the one to respond to the call, he would have taken him (my youngest) behind the shed to have a small conversation with him first. In fact he told us that most of the cops in the area would probably just have a very nice chat with the youngster on how to behave, providing that the parents didn't leave any marks, or the kid wasn't bleeding or the like.
