Birth Control
Stay Away From This Potentially Fatal Form of Birth Control
The FDA has issued a warning regarding the elevated risk of blood clots in a woman's legs and lungs from the Ortho Evra birth control patch.
The FDA claims the warning was issued based on the results of a single study that found women using the patch doubled their risk of blood clots compared to those taking the pill.
However, earlier reports have put the risk of these potentially fatal clots as actually being as much as three times higher than the risk from taking the pill. In 2004 alone, a dozen deaths were linked to the patch and many more to strokes and clots.
Johnson & Johnson is facing 500 claimants in lawsuits related to deaths and injuries caused by the patch. Legal analysts believe that these 500 claims are only the beginning, since thousands of women may have suffered from blood clots, heart attacks and strokes, but could be as yet unaware of the cause.
Johnson & Johnson is attempting to settle as many of the cases out of court as possible in an attempt to reduce media coverage of the problem, which so far has not been widely reported.
If the cases go to court, Johnson & Johnson is likely to lose many of them, as the victims are almost always young women with no prior history of heart trouble, so the birth control patch can be easily pinpointed as the cause of the problem.
In 2005, there were more than 9.4 million prescriptions written for the Ortho Evra patch.

Re: Birth Control
So what do you guys suggest? Taking the pill in which I'd (without a doubt) FORGET to take the pill or risk the chances of getting on a death bed?
Yeah, I suppose if that was the case, getting knocked up would be the better way to go.
HH, although when I went in for my check-up, doctor told me I'd be okay (had no big concerns for me being on patch). They said that it's more of an issue if you're a smoker.

Re: Birth Control
I had noticed that the Orthro Evra commercials had been pulled, and now seem to be replaced with law firm commercials making monetary promises if you had been taking this particular drug.

Re: Birth Control
I do not know what to believe, you cant trust the Government because the FDA is monetarily approached by the Drug companies to promote the safety of their drugs. While at the same time the American Medical Associations curriculum for Doctors is sponsored by the major drug companies, Little do the Doctors know they are being encouraged to administer unsafe drugs at the drop of a hat.
So guess who the guinee pigs, and test pilots are for the drug companies enormous profit of unsafe drugs. I guess you just have to read as much as you can and try to make the best decissions for yourself that you possibly can.

Worries me yes, to see young people that are trying to do things right, be healthy as possible, and have a little fun in life and the people that are suppose to watch out for us have their heads up their asses, while they are shovelling our hard earned tax dollars into their back pockets, while at the same time putting all the young women and children and unborns at risk.
