Did you know.........
I'm not sure if there's a topic for this already. If so, I can't find it! So here goes.....
Did you know
Frog bones grow new rings as they age, just like trees.
Dalmatians are born without spots.
Spiders have clear blood.
Giraffes were once called "Camelopards" because people thought they were half camel and half leopard.
The Statue of Liberty's fingernails are each slightly bigger than a regular sized magazine.
The world's oceans contain enough GOLD to give two pounds to every person on the planet.
The ancient Egyptians trained monkeys to dance and play music.
Some ants can make themselves explode.
There is no sound in space.

Re: Did you know.........
I'm pretty sure the "space" thing has to do with lack of oxygen. Try putting a plastic bag over your head, suck out all of the air, hold it tight around your neck and try to scream!!
As for the dalmatians... I'm not sure. They get their spots around 6 or 8 weeks, I think.
The monkeys? Why not? I'd find it pretty darn entertaining!
Statue of Liberty... 'Cause she's so frickin' HUGE!
Ants.... I'm thinking it's a "defense mechanism." To save the colony, maybe?
Frog bones and spiders..... just in the genes, I reckon.
Gold in the oceans. It's everywhere! My daughter asked why they don't get it out. I told her it would take a while for me to explain that..... just think of the tremendous effort it would take! Not to mention the effects on marine wildlife and habitat
How'd I do?

Re: Did you know.........
A wolf's sense of smell is 7 times greater than that of a bloodhound!
Why do rabbits' noses twitch? --- Rabbits' noses have about 100 smelling sensors--that's about 90 million more than humans have! Twitching up to 120 times per minute allows their sensitive sniffers to pick up more scents. And that's nothing to sneeze at. Catching an early whiff of a predator tells a rabbit when to hightail it in the other direction!

Ok, before I post any homework, which probably won't be until Monday, I have to give y'all one more useless fact.
Why are cats and dogs afraid of vacuum cleaners?--- To you it's just a boring vacuum, but to many pets it's an ear bursting beast on the attack. Cats and dogs are supersensitive to sound, especially high-pitched noises. To them, the whine of a vacuum may sound more like a jet engine and it's zooming all over the house! If you ran into a screeching monster in your living room, you'd hide in the closet, too!

A bullfrog's eardrum is just behind its eyes.
People really taste with their noses.
If you could unfold the human cortex (outside layer of the brain) it would be bigger than an extra large pizza.
The biggest piece of fossilized dinosaur poop ever found is 17 inches long
A hot dog can be mummified using regular baking sod.

People really taste with their noses.
How is that possible, is that only when a nose snarffles (you know when you laugh so hard and drinking something it comes out of your nose) or what? And if a nose could taste, wouldn't it need a tongue, last time I checked my nose, I didn't see a tongue hanging out of it or in it.

Re: Did you know.........
a good portion of what you pressume is taste is actually smell... your tongue can only give you the sweet/sour/bitter/salty... or something along those lines. that's why when you're sick and plugged up food looses most of it's taste.

When I was in the third grade at a Catholic school, I made a kid laugh so hard that he passed a half of a peanut butter sandwich and some chocolate milk out of his nose. Sister Benedict thought it was a miracle and took him away to be de-briefed by a priest. That's a whole 'nuther story... /

This one I can answer for you. Alton Brown talked about it on his show, Good Eats, too! There are thousands of little receptors in your nose that send signals to the brain.... a lot like the tastes bud on your tongue! Which, by the way, regenerate after you burn the shit out of them with, say, a hot cup of coffee!!!

According to Guinness World Records, the cosmopolitan sailfish is considered the fastest fish in the sea.
They point out that measuring a fish's speed over a short distance is very difficult to do. Still, in a series of speed trials carried out at the Long Key Fishing Camp in Florida, one sailfish took out 300 feet of line in three seconds, which is equivalent to a velocity of 68 mph.
