Do you prefer the real thing.........
OK, in this day in age computers have come a LONG way!......And most everyone has a way to get on one......Do you find that since the boom, that you tend not to write anymore on paper, and just write a quick e mail because its so much easier?.....
I find that I have come so accustomed to the keyboard that when I try to write a letter I actually dread it!.....There is no spell check and you cant just delete something in the middle of a paragraph when you re read it and find you didn't like how it came out...
Heck, you can even send e cards in the mail instead of actually buying them and writing in them, just to put a stamp on the and walk down to the mail box.....
Do you find it impersonal when you get a birthday e card instead of the "real" thing in the mail, or do you appreciate it just as much?......
Do you also find that computers have made people more inpersonable?.....

Re: Do you prefer the real thing.........
I find that the computer has been better for me. My handwriting is terrible and most of the time illegible so using the keyboard to write has been a pleasure. I don't think sending and recieving messages and greetings by E-mail is impersonable. I do still send birthday and Christmas cards by mail with my signature in them.

Re: Re: Do you prefer the real thing.........
I think everyone has their own way of showing they care. If its by e-card or by hand written card, it really doesn't matter. Either way, you're taking time out of your busy schedule to let someone know you're thinking about them. I can appreciate that.

I still like sending letters and cards on paper. I absolutely despise 'e cards', will never send one and rarely open one when I receive it.
I buy my paper at Cranes and generally try to get several designer patterns. I hand stamp my envelopes with my "symbol" and use an embosser for the return address.
To me, the physical letter has class while an email is utilitarian.

What's wrong with utility? Being useful is great. But can it be classy? That's the question. I guess I think that it all depends on the content. A paper Hallmark card with nothing but a signature at the bottom is pretty pathetic, at least as much as an ecard.
But a beautifully crafted email message can be a lovely as an old-style letter written in calligraphy with a quill pen.

If I had my choosing, it would be the good old word processor. I can write anything and hit spell check just to make sure that every thing is spelled right, you can use any style script you want and you can even add borders and colors. Now how you send it is another thing, you can use e-mail or snail mail including making a cool envelope.

I also know of a site where I can get backgrounds and fun things to add to my emails to make them more mine. I wish I had the time to write letters longhand nowadays, because I love to write, I have been told I have pretty handwriting. Even when I write emails, I tend to use handwriting fonts, so it looks more like mine and not so "utilitarian"

Re: Do you prefer the real thing.........
I used to write a lot, and wrote numerous letters, notes, etc.
I do like to use email and E-cards just because it's there at the click of your .... mouse, finger? whatever one makes sense. LOL
But I still do like to go to the store and look for a card that fits just right for the person/occasion as I feel that the person recieving it will sense that you put more effort into it.
Then again, I like to do the little things for anyone. Just my way of going about showing them what I think/feel.

agreed.. and it's just that little touch of knowing another warm body put that effort into the words that make it meaningful.. something an email will never obtain.
although i rarely do either.

Same here. My handwriting is horrible. I can be very creative and at the same time, check my spelling before posting, using a keyboard. The end result is ledgeable, and grammatically correct.

Re: Do you prefer the real thing.........
I don't do any writing any more. You couldn't read it anyway, most of the time I have print so they can read it, but even then it's a little ?????. So I guess that if its something that they have to read, I type it.
