Gadgets....
All those common, household gadgets...like alarm clocks, can openers, coffee makers, telephones, etc..?
What do you do when they malfunction or quit working all together?
Do you shake 'em. bang 'em, and give them one more chance?
Figure, what the hell, it's broke anyway and crack 'em open and see what makes them tick?
Throw them away with out another thought and just buy a new one figuring it's time for an upgrade anyway?

Re: Gadgets....
It would depend on what it is. Coffee makers automatically go in the trash and get replaced.
Anything else? If I can take it apart, I do. Then replace.
I like, to know how things are suppose to work

Re: Gadgets....
I always try to fix it first, and YES, banging the crap out of it works occasionally, eventually if it doesn't work I will have to replace it ...

Re: Gadgets....
Having been married to a compulsive pack rat for 24yrs who never ever throws anything away...my god we may need that again, I have learned to just walk away and in a few months to go back and throw it out myself.
And then swear I have no idea what happened to it when it is needed in the future.

Re: Gadgets....
Most of the time they just end up in the trash, unless I just can't live without it. Then I may think about trying to fix it, or race right out and get a neew one.

My wife and I have purchased many household items via QVC.If anything goes wrong or you just don't care for the stupid thing, no problem. Send the freakin' thing back. No questions asked. They either replace it, give you credit or a refund. Hell, I bought a DVD recorder from them, kept it 4 months, called them to get a return authorization, sent it back and got my refund in less than a week. I purchased a FOODSAVER vacuum sealer unit from them about 15 months ago. We had a sealing issue with the unit about a month ago so they said toss it and we would receive a brand new and improved unit, no charge. Two weeks later, we got it.
I do keep 98% of what I buy from them. Great stuff.

Re: Gadgets....
We have two theories in our house - I throw them out and buy new ones immediately. My partner puts them away, thinking we'll find someone to fix them someday.
My way is better.

Re: Gadgets....
I thought for awhile toasters and I were not ever going to get along. I had been through two toasters this year and am now dealing with the third. I thought for a while there that this one was going to end up in the trash due to it not wanting to stay down when I wanted it too. That was until a cute handyman came over for awhile and I think I had mentioned the toaster issue and he just pushed a button or two on the plug-ins and poof it works.
Thank goodness for my dear handyman or I wouldnt make it through! LMAO.

Re: Gadgets....
I love new gadgets, probably my downfall. I will even buy new ones just because I can't resist the newest and shinest. Which means I end up with so much stuff I can't use. I need to start posting it up on ebay

Don't need them often...but sure enough, when ya need the gadget--the battery is dead!
And in that case, there is always the plug in the wall type...but then again I dont care for being teathered to the wall!
Well, on second thought!!

Speaking of batteries
Try those new energizer e lithium AA's.... they cost a bit more than the normal ones but they're worth it!!!!!

Re: Gadgets....
OK....just to get back ON topic........
Anyone have a roaster oven?
I have one, and am wondering if its not working right.
If I put a chicken or turkey in it, It will cook what ever is in it.......but as for a turkey or chicken, the damn bird is still white as if not cooked....very unappealing.
Is it time for my roasting oven to become target practice?
