Stress
Being a student is very stressful, so is being a parent, spouse, employee, employer, etc. - How do you all handle your stress?? Maybe something you list will help someone else.

Re: Stress
For me during test taking I find that wearing earplugs, chewing gum, a watch (so I am not stressing about how much time I have left, and remembering to breath (that sounds funny but it's true) all have really helped me control test anxiety.

Re: Stress
I go outside at dusk, sit on the bench swing and listen to the birds and watch the critters eat..... birds, squirrels, rabbits.... The sound of nature helps me deal with stress.

I go to the beach, walk around in the water splashing my feet around, listening to the water crash against the rocks, smell the ocean air. It release negative endorphins, and inhales positive ions. Yummm!!

Re: Stress
There are two things that I do. #1 - i go running...it really helps you clear your head and prioritize the things that need to take place in your life. #2 - i play golf...even if you only have time to go to the driving range, nothing feels better then to name your golf ball after someone or something that is frustrating and then whack it really hard.

Re: Stress
I shoot pool and am on 2 dart leagues as well. Being with my friends on the WN is another way I relieve my stress.
I have also been a wrestling fan for ions---if wrestling is on all my stress goes away because i ignore everyone around me until its over.

Re: Stress
I play golf almost every Friday.
I'm with people I like & get along with.
I'm out in "nature" with the peace & quiet.
No phones. No faxes. Don't have to deal with anything but golf for approx 4 hours.

Re: Stress
If it's work related stress, I just shut up and do the work, getting over with it is the only way to make the stress to away. If it's emotional stress I'll go to a beach and just sit there.

Re: Stress
I like to just veg, sometimes with a book, sometimes without,in a bath or laying out in the sun, sweat the frustration out, till I am me again. I tend to go off by myself to do this. I am a very easygoing person, but if something hits me that hard, then I will remove myself from company till I have resolved it in my head. Luckily, this does not happen often and if it does, I do my best to not take it out on anyone.

Re: Stress
Stress? It is something that will sneak up on you and take you by surprise if you aren't careful...now stressing over TV shows, other peoples driving, old ladies with shopping carts banging into your ankles while you're trying to decide what to buy for dinner, etc...those aren't stress just annoying nusisances.
As one who has learned the hard way...watch for warning signs..sleepless nights, short temper, fidgeting, worrying over everything and always always putting yourself last. Stress can cause serious multiple health problems and can kill you if you let it.
For the past few years I've let stress get the best of me while living in hospitals for months at a time...I have focused all of my energies to health issues of loved ones and I do mean all of my energy. I have made the mistake of giving up my job, my old friends, my talent, my business only to find that it didn't matter to anyone but me.
And my reward has been a heart attack, heart surgeries, stroke/mini strokes and possibly cancer ( the jury or the gods are still out on this one).
Now there are to very amazing men on this site that occassionally offer advice to me...don't sweat the small stuff, don't stress over things you can't control and most important...Take care of yourself first!! These two wonderful men also insist that I keep smiling and when I talk with them that's never a problem. Guess what I'm trying to say is "pick your battles carefully" and never be afraid to ask for help.

Re: Stress
I usually dont think my 'issues' are stress. I just think of them as temporary ....... unhappiness.
LOL.
Don't usually try to let stuff get the best of me when I know there will be light at the end of the tunnel sometime sooner or later. At least, nowadays, anyways.

Re: Stress
I appreciate your responses!! I think it is very interesting to hear what you have to say. Hot - ty, I know where you are coming from and hope that eventually those you have helped will figure out how important and loving you are!!
I am one that when stressed can not relax at all, am up all night & sex is totally out of the question - which when I think about it is a big waste of time when I am awake all night!!!!!!!! And actually, sex is a stress reliever. It's bad when alcohol does not even help ! This too shall pass, just need to get through Monday and I will be better! You all are the greatest!!

Re: Stress
Nursing is stressful and you are right so is being a mother. When the kids are driving me crazy I usually just take a break - like a nice hot bath with lots of bubbles and a glass of wine and remember I chose to have the little monsters - hahah. When work is hurting me that is a little harder, if I can't talk it out with my best friend then I hit the road and run. There is nothing like feeling my feet hit the pavement, the music pounding in my ears, the wind blowing around my face, the sun warming my body. A great way to relieve stress!

How 'bout a Remington 16 gauge 1100 series or an over powdered muzzle loader? Nothin' like gettin' knocked flat on your ass! If ya' hit the ground hard enough, you won't be worried about stress anymore

Hell Moon, I like the way you think. I got a nice target range that goes from 100-1000 yards. Come to Nebr, & we can heat up some steel.
