Sci Fi
Now, we have a topic for scary movies, so I thought I'd start one on Sci Fi.
1) What is your favorite Sci Fi movie of all time (if you like them, that is)
2) what is the best series of Sci Fi movies?
3) what, in your opinion, is the best Sci Fi series on TV (current or off the air)
I want to see some sensible discussion, please, no flaming another's opinion

Re: Sci Fi
good topic pepper,
1, event horizon- great sci fi film, it was like the shining in space.
2, in my opiion, its a choice between the alien films and the "the cube 1+2" the alien films for very obvious reasons and the cube films because they were done on such a low budget and the end result was 2 fantastic movies.
3, has to be star trek, but out of all the star trek series i would choose "deep space nine".i personally thought it was alot better than the rest.

Re: Sci Fi
Sci-Fi spans such a wide range it is very difficult to pick favorites unless you assign them to an era. One or the earliest is the classic "Metropolis" where machines take over the world and displace people. "Forbidden Planet" was technically very elegant in the 50's but had a "space opera" script. The first 3 "Star Wars" were a vehicle that swept many people away and made the notice the genre. The last/first 3 had great technical qualities but were not that entertaining except for the hard core fans. For the small screen Star Trek pointed the way the world would become and showed the human element could never be counted out. It is still on daily all over the world, even with Shatner's lack of acting ability. "Voyager" and "Deep Space Nine" were the best of the series and "Enterprise" the worst. "Battlestar Galactica" first season was very good but seems to have drifted in season 2. I'm eagerly awaiting season 3 in October. This is not an exhaustive list and there have been many other shows which are great sci-fi but not necessarily good ratings or box office material. Just one person's rambling thoughts, I'm looking forward to this thread and your ideas.

Yes, I'm a sci-fi person so I really have no favorites...I like most all of them, even the silly B-movies. Aside from the "Star" movies I'd have to say Independance Day is my favorite.

I love SciFi, and I grew up with the original Star Trek, my dad always made sure we understood the social themes with each episode. My all time favorite - The Star Wars Episodes 4,5,6. That is where I developed my idea of what a hero is, "someone who does the right thing, no matter what the personal cost"

Re: Sci Fi
I have to say, I am surprised, not that you have heard of "Forbidden Planet" but that there is someone(s) in the world, besides me who like that movie! It is my all time fave sci fi movie!
For me, best movie series are 4,5,6 of Star Wars, with the original generation movies of Star Trek, coming in a VERY close second.
I loved getting to know Anakin's "backstory", but those three just simply could not top the originals, no matter that they are 20 years (or more) old now. For me, the thrill is knowing and arguing the storyline with friends on the SW boards.
Best series? IMHO, I love both Stargate series, though SG1 is the hands down winner of the two. Richard Dean Anderson has become Jack O'Neill in my mind and is sorely missed, though I am enjoying Ben Browder and Claudia Black from "Farscape" joining up. It has become my favorite since ST:NG went off of the air.
One thing I forgot to ask, what's your favorite sci fi book?
I have so many, that i will have to think about that one for a while, lol!

I would have to say that i liked the first star wars trilogy the best. I am not a big fan of 1-3. Some of the new characters like Jar Jar? really make it too childish for me.

That be true red shirt is instant deaf on Star Trek. Speaking of Star Trek has anyone ever seen Star Trek 2.0 it's on one of those video game T.V channels they show and episode of Star Trek and then they have all these neat things about the show and there's a trivia game going on next to the episode with a ticker tape running beside to show everyone score kind of neat if ya like Star Trek

They are keeping it tightly under wraps. Don't think casting has even started yet, they are still in the writing stage, but I was on the official Star Trek site a few days ago and got a very cool desktop of the new poster!
as for the roast, I am SURE comedy central will put it out on DVD. Might also check out you tube, b ul, they have clips of it under Star Trek.

Re: Sci Fi
The only thing under the classification of "Sci-Fi" that I've watched lately is on the sci-fi channel....it's silly but kinda fun...it's a reality show called something like "So you want to be a superhero"....and it's hosted by spiderman creator Stan Lee....it's something else, lemme tell ya!
Anyone else caught this show?

I have and I actually did like it. Watched it mostly to see Stan Lee, but wound up gettin into it.
Unusual for me, cos I don't generally like "reality TV". Not quite sure if that fits this show, though.

Re: Sci Fi
i used to watch a show called " the last american hero"...i think thats what it was called.
it was about a school teacher who found a superman uniform that fell from outer space. he would put it on & be just like supperman. problem is...he is clumsy & didnt know how to use its powers. but of course he would always get his man..by accident. i thought it was funny. was on for a short time.

I remember it, but to be honest, wish they'd used someone ther than Tasha to show him the "ropes". Never did like that woman. Best thing about that show was it was a "link" between the original and the new. Loved it for that reason, alone.
How about the one on DS9( that put Sisko and company into the "tribbles" episode of original? I laughed myself silly, it was GREAT! *note to self: see if I can find just that episode*

in my opinion of a good sci-fi flick would have to be the Xmen movies even though i did not see the latest one. as far as sci-fi series would have to go to Battlrsar Galactica original. and now for the book part of the forum would have to be Termiator2: judgment day
