Red Light Districts
If you were to be in the market for an escort, some new porno mags and vids, and sex toys ...how far would you have to travel?
Is sex an open industry in your area, or do the locals jump in with picket signs when the area movie rental business offers "adult titles"?

Re: Red Light Districts
The local video store has a movie section but seeing as many of my students work there i think that i would go to the next town over.

Re: Red Light Districts
A couple towns to the south of us, went nuts when a XXX shop opened a few years ago. They, the city staff, said that it went in without their kowledge, bull shit. It was the city who gave them a permit to open for business. They had to, there was no laws that would keep them out. The local church's went on a picketing rampage for about three monthes. The picketing didn't work, and the XXX shop is still open.

Re: Red Light Districts
I never have nor would I ever go to a hooker. And even though there's a few adult shops pretty close by, it's strictly mail order for me. Besides, who can pass up all the free stuff you get for only spending $17? Im a proud Platinum Member! LMAO!

Re: Red Light Districts
There are a number of Adult shops that operate in San Diego county, as well as topless bars & a couple of nude bars.
My take is: if you don't like it, don't go in there.
Seems simple enough to me.
But to many people want to IMPOSE their values on everyone else, whether it be smoking, drinking, pornograhy or religion.
Believe what you believe, JUST KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! and leave the rest of us alone.

Re: Red Light Districts
You'd have to go to a street called Harry Hines in Dallas for the escort. We have a toy store about 30 miles away, give or take a mile. But the name of the store is Toyr R Us! I don't know of any around here. And yes, this town would totally FREAK if the video store got dirty movies. Then again, we don't have a video store.

Re: Red Light Districts
I wouldn't necessarily say that.... I'm sure they've got 'em all over Dallas. I don't travel there much. I live in a VERY small town, though.

Re: Red Light Districts
Closest one is like an hour and a half or so.
When on a road trip earlier this summer down towards Missouri, I had never seen so many exits with signs advertising "XXX... blah blah". There was so many of them that I would've been tempted to go to one just for the hell of it, but.... darn driver kept on chuggin.
LOL
Driver was wise though, who knows what would've happened after.

Re: Red Light Districts
Missouri being a midwestern state, bible belt state, just about every adult store or business gets picketed or opposed.
Right now there's even another group opposing yet another Hooters resturant.

Re: Red Light Districts
Most towns, [at least larger ones] have made the "book stores" and strip clubs moce into industrial areas. Not sure what the thinking is on this. Perhaps just to have them further away from houses?
AS far as the hookers, they are a phone call away in most towns or cities.

Going for a hooker is not an option. Won't happen ever. If I get that desperate, there's always Mr. Righty.

Re: Red Light Districts
We do have plenty of Porn Shops here, but they have evolved into fairly respectable business directed at couples, wedding showers, etc...more of a "gift shop" now...you can still find the "old school" porn shops down in the city, the kind of shops were men go to sit in booths and watch videos and movies...

Re: Red Light Districts
In my state, it's OK as long as it's not in my state... Use to be that if you were into that kind of thing, "The Combat Zone" was the place in Boston to go. Now It's been turned into regal art shops. One of the governers decided that the zone needed to go, and declared war on those kind of stores and bars. Through underhanded tactics, licences were denied, causing shops to close, only to be replaced with arts and antique shops. Now if you want that kind of thing, you only have to look across the borders. From my area, Seabrook is the place to go. There is only one shop though, and it's funny. The infractions that were imposed upon it are way too funny. All the windows have to have black paper on them. No one is allowed to park in front of the establishment and advertisements are banned. They were lucky to able to get a sign on the front of the building. Oh, and every so often there are protesters out front with signs. It's a good way for your particular group to get free publicity. I never thought there was a NH chapter of the Klu Klux Klan until I saw them out protesting in font one Saturday morning...
