County Fairs
Ah yes. Remember them well.
There are games and the beer tent.
There is entertainment and the beer tent.
There are livestock shows and the beer tent.
There is food and the beer tent.
There are rides and the beer tent.

The above was what I remember from them. The state fair in South Dakota is much the same.

Re: County Fairs
The Carnis hitting on you
The horse shit on your shoes
The vomit in the trash can from someone throwing up after the round up ride
The pick pockets running amuck
The dirty greasy grills that that polish dog you are eating was made on
The rip off artists at the game tables
The 5 dollar elephant ears that cost 25 cents to make
ahhhh yes the county fair!

Heeeeeeyyyyy...the carnies never hit on me.
Me, I love all festival type places, not just the county fairs. Yesterday I went with my sisters, my niece, and my nephew to...wait for it...the Tofu Festival. God I'm so LA sometimes.

I dunno about the rip off artist. I used to be on a dart league. Once at a county fair I went to those dart games with the checker boards, laid down a $100, said I'm only throwing one dart. I threw & got the $100 I won & left despite him trying to get me to throw again. The one time I came out ahead

Re: County Fairs
I just find it kinda sad, for me and them, that a band or music artist I paid $30 bucks a ticket or more to see on a major stage on a major tour, is now playing 3 nites for my local rural county fair...

Re: Re: County Fairs
QUOTE (Chazzy @ August 16, 2006, 13:10)Awww dammit!! Someone google us a good funnel cake recipe!!
Here ya go!!
Funnel Cake
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups milk
3 2/3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
vegetable oil, for frying
Beat eggs and sugar together and then add the milk slowly--beat. Add the dry ingredients and beat until smooth and creamy.
Pour batter into a funnel and at the same time, use your finger to plug the hole. In a large cast iron pot, add 2 inches of oil from the bottom.
When the oil becomes hot, move your hand over the pot and slowly release your finger so the batter can start cooking.
Move the funnel around to make designs.
Brown on both sides--then immediately remove and drain extremely well.
Top with brown sugar, or honey, or cinnamon sugar, or powdered sugar as a topping.
BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT GET BURNED!!
