Why is it?
Why is it that when you get a message from someone they never want to correspond through here? They always want you to do it through the e-mail and not Pm's.
I thought that was what the private messaging was for?

Re: Why is it?
On the rare occasions i do get mail, and the person wants me to be on a messenger, I politely decline until I know them better.
From my experience, many times this is get you to do to another site. Or to ask for money.
I'm not interested in either.

Re: Why is it?
if you bounced around to other sites kinda like WN you know that at some given point you are "cut off" without warning and you may loose contact with whomever you may actually be interested in... a quick email exchange is just good practice to not miss a chance at something good. I just set up an email at yahoo for the specific purpose of handing out willie nillie.. if it gets in the hands of the wrong person and filled with spam no big deal, abandon it and start over with a new one. just a different perspective.

Re: Why is it?
I would have to agree with BCB, but I find it to be overwhelming to give out my address to many people......I try very hard to reply to all of my mail, because I believe its rude not to.....Although I am not looking for anything, I am also here to make sure that if any one needs help they can get it!.....
I find that most of the people when in chat will give me their msn because while in chat it takes a while to answer all the PM's, and I answer them to not be rude......I do tell them if I gave everyone my mns or yahoo, I would be in the same predicament as I am when in chat....So I tend to never give that out!.......

Re: Why is it?
Have to agree with BCB and NYK on this one. Simply what BCB said pretty much is the reason why I have a different one for spam reasons. Also that I wouldn't know or wouldn't put full confidence of trust into it all yet. Some people have to work for it in some cases if they really wanted my personal email address.

Re: Why is it?
I find that there is nothing wrong with giving someone that you've gotten to know well, your e-mail address. For those who will not message anyone anywhere other than a private e-mail, just makes me a little suspicious, you know those red flags. There is nothing wrong with messaging within this site, and if just by chance, things start to go a little sour, you always have a way of blocking them, or even as a last resort, reporting them to the powers of Ab's. I find its too hard to change e-mail addresses as you have to notify everyone on your list. I know that there is ways of getting around that, Ma and I have 3 e-mail addresses, each has there own purpose.
OK, I'm off my soap box.

Re: Why is it?
As I see it... Private e-mails serve two purposes. One is the fact that big brother isn't watching you. You can be rude, crude and offensive, without reprocussions. Try that on this site and see where that gets you. Two if your like me, you try to send an e-mail through this site and be as tactful as possible. You find yourself, deleting lines and sensoring yourself, but there's a time limit here. If you spend too much of that time writing a long e-mail here, you run the risk of being booted out of the system, losing the whole message in the process. With personal e-mails, this doesn't exist...

First off....none of us care to spend our time reading anyones messages but our own, and it's not even possible for the mod's to do this....however, if you send crude, rude, offensive, harrassing or threatening messages to other members here, they are well within thier rights to report those messages.
Now, the time out thing....before you hit "send"...just right click, select all, copy...then send.
Then if you get a "time out" error message, you just have to "paste" and then send again.

First - if you're being rude, crude and offensive there's a really short way to the BLOCK/IGNORE option and then you'll be whining "NOBODY IS RESPONDING TO MEEEE, WAAAAAA".
Second - many, many email providers have SESSION timeouts due to security issues. We can remove the session timeout and this will leave your account at risk.
Third - if you're writing an essay (maybe 0.005% of our members do it) it's a really good idea to write it in a text document on your computer and then just paste + send. It's THAT easy.
Fourth - you have 1 hour before you get booted. If you need more than that to write a SINGLE private message than I am speechless.
Sorry if I am being rude!

Re: Why is it?
Yahoo for example will ask you for password every 15minutes! You can adjust it to up to 24 hours, but that's another issue, we're not yahoo.

I screen my e-mails using several "disposable" addresses from yahoo. If I don't really know who I am, how can I tell anybody?
