air cleaners...
Any one currently using one they like? Do they really help with allergies and sinus problems?
Do you have one you feel was a waste of money, or one that you can't imagine life without?

Re: air cleaners...
I'd be careful with some and Google the ones you're interested in. I saw a news report that said some air cleaners actually pump out more harmful stuff than they clean out of your air. I forget which they targeted specifically as being bad, the ones they listed made it so the rooms they were in had worse air quality than a busy day in LA.

Re: air cleaners...
I hear Rainbow Vaccum Cleaners are really good and I've seen them work too. They're more than just a vaccum cleaner, its got all kinds of functions and air cleaners is one of them. Apparently the story I heard by the woman who I seen it with, said it had helped out her kids with the whole asthma thing, saved them lots of money and really takes out a lot of the dust floating around.

Re: air cleaners...
BC your right, as usual, Rainbow's use water to trap the dust and dirt. There some other models out there, but not sure on the names. Rainbow's are good, but expensive, much like Kirby's, several hundred $$$$.

Re: air cleaners...
I don't have carpets, so I'm more interested in the ionic, electronic machines that circulate and clean the air.
The kind that Oreck and Sharper Image sell.
I'm trying one out that is being loaned to me, it's a Fredrich brand, and after 3 days, I do feel a little better, haven't had an allergy/sinus headache during this time, so I'm wondering if one type, model or brand will give me evern better results.

Re: air cleaners...
Chazzy, I'm not sure about all of those but having a good air filter on your ac/heating unit can make a world of difference....... especially with animals!

Re: air cleaners...
I would not only suggest a web search, but also recommend checking with "Consumer Reports"

Husband is an HVAC man, so he does take care of all the filters...I can say that a week of running an air cleaner in the bedroom while I sleep has really relieved allot of allergy congestion for me, as a matter of fact, I've only had one tiny itty bitty sinus headache!

Re: air cleaners...
I have a FILTRETE 1250 Ultra Allergen filter by 3M in my ac/heating unit it traps Pollen, Mold spores, dust mites, pet Dander, bacteria, smoke(but I do not let anyone smoke in the house) and particles that carry viruses, It looks similar to a car air intake filter with the pleated fiber and metal mesh to suport the fiber, it has three times the suface area of a regular filter because of the pleats, you need the extra suface area, because of the denseness of the filter material so it does not slow down the air flow of the furnace, I have been using this type for a few years now, if there were a better one on the market to fit my furnace I would buy it. they come in standard sizes mine is 20X25X1 inches it last 3 months and cost around $16.00 at home depot.

Re: air cleaners...
chazzy, when i was younger i had some "breathing issues" and my grandparents got a air filter/purifier. they got theirs from amway. i can't remember what it was called though. (sorry) but i do know that it lasted 10 years, and they got another one. i will do some checking to see if i can get the name if it and get back to you on it. (and find out if it is possible to get it not through amway, but from a retailer)

Re: air cleaners...
Chaz, not sure why I'm thinkin' this, but do you have hard wood floors? If so, a hint with the sweeping, which you probably already know about. Use a good straw broom and spray a little endust on it. It picks up the animal hair better.
