Mother's of young children, HELP!
My sister-in-law gave me a beautiful high quality wooden blanket chest or hope chest, and my adorable little niece had at one time, stuck some of her power puff girls stickers on the front of it..any suggestions on how to remove the stickers, and thier residue as cleanly and safely to the finish as possible?
Kids, can't turn your back on 'em for a minute can ya?

I would try WD40. I would first use it in a spot that won't show, as I'm sure how it will affect the finish. After you get the sticky stuff off, you would have clean it good.

Yup this stuff works great and it has an oil base so it shouldn't hurt the finish. Wash it over with some Murphy's oils soap when you are done and you should be good to go!

Re: Mother's of young children, HELP!
The inexpensive residue remover is lighter fluid, and usually it will not hurt any surfice except some plastics... Soak a spot on a cloth and hold on residue momentarely, then rub and "poof" it will start to go away!!!

Re: Mother's of young children, HELP!
try using a hairdryer and soften the adhesive on the backing, that may work best to lift off the sticker the residue could then be washed out.

Re: Mother's of young children, HELP!
Most of the things people posted do work. Cooking oil works as well. WD40 is a miracle in a can. Or you can go into a medical supply store and get ADHESIVE REMOVER. It is used to take off bandages and/or the residue from bandages in a gentle way.It comes in liquid form, gel, or wipes. I use it all the time.Nail polish remover works as well but depending on what you are taking it off of you don't want to ruin the finish so I would try the gentlest thing first.

Re: Mother's of young children, HELP!
W-D-40 will definitely take the stickers off, but it will leave a stain. I encountered similar problems back when I was a contractor. 1st, take your blow drier to the stickers, that will make the adhesive become semi liquid. You then can Peel 70-80% of the sticker off easily. Then use a dishwasher soap, ( Dawn) or a hair conditioner that's made for oily hair. If the chest is old, it would be a shame to stain or ruin the wood with a petroleum base product like w d 40

Re: Mother's of young children, HELP!
Hair conditioner works the same reason vegetable oil works. But the dryer is a good one that I have used as well. Then the vegetable oil or conditioner. Conditioners sometimes have things that I'm not sure of so I tend to go for the veg oil first. The funny thing is we have the things in our house to solve most any issue but we spend a fortune on "specialty" products. My daughter had some friends that came in, one covered in car grease and the other covered in house hold paint. They both just did some work on different things. I sent them to my bathroom with a jar of cooking oil and paper towels as well as an old towel they could toss when they were done. I said "just poor it on and use it like liquid soap" They both couldn't believe that it took it all off better and with less scrubbing and pain to their skin than ever before. Not to mention their skin was so soft after.lol
