Nostalgic Vacations
I took a trip to Denver earlier this year and upon returning home, felt quit relaxed, yet amazed at the changes in the area.
I also am planning another vacation and realized that I am going to places I have not seen in a long time.
Do you sometimes plan a vacation or trip to go somewhere you haven't seen in a long time?

Re: Nostalgic Vacations
We used to go camping as we drove around Lake Superior. That would be fun again, on motorcycle. Then the trip to New York City, and the DC area. Haven't been there since the early 70's. Then the trip to Mexico. Up in the mountains and in the villages. The first trip there in '68, we were lucky not to be put in jail. Dad had that '64 Mustang just loaded with medical supplies, for my grandpa. He was a missionary.

Re: Nostalgic Vacations
As often as I can, but never often enough, I make the trip back in the southern Missouri hills. My ancestor's land, most of it still belongs to the family...my father's cousins.
The family cemetary is on top of one the highest hills.
Any narrow dirt lane, any footpath, any livestock trail leads straight to the past, the remnants of the log cabin foundations, milk house over the spring, the root cellars.
Sometimes...I get very, very tired of where I am, but never of where I came from.

I've yet do that. There is the log house that my g g great grandfather built in Kansas is still standing and part of historical society. And in South Dakota the land that my great grandfather homesteaded is still part of my cousins farm. There is another log hoouse out east somewhere that is still being lived in, and a weaving loom invention that is in the Smithsonian, so I've been told. It would great to visit all these places. I will someday, just not this year.

I love going any place where you can just wander around, read and feel the history.

Re: Nostalgic Vacations
I like to go places, see family that I haven't seen in a long time... visit cemeteries and make notes on ancestors for my records.
