Phone Talk
You meet someone online, you like each other, you as the guy do not want to be pushy,so you suggest talking on the phone as the next step. There are payphones, cell phones, ect. You do not know 100% you have been really been talking with a female, hearing a voice would help ease this doubt. If you are going to meet you will need to be able to talk by phone,So Whats the Big Deal about not talking by phone?

Re: Phone Talk
Maybe just a sad sign of the times? Letter writing is all but lost, now the person to person phone calls?
I do email just about everyone I know as a primary way of communication. It's just so convenient for me to be able to multitask at my computer and be able to communicate with whoever I want whenever I want and I have some control how long or short the conversation is.
Now, for others, they may know someone that has had a bad experience or may have had one themselves. They may have thought they knew someone well enough from online time and felt it was a good move to give out their phone number and then had the hassle of screening calls or changing their number when something between them went horrible wrong. I do believe that being very cautious with sharing any contact information with online acquaintances to be a very good practice.

Re: Phone Talk
I have never had that problem myself, but other family members have. And if a problem should ever arise with telephone calls, I am not shy about letting them know not to call anymore, and it is usually ended by thret to call phone company and local authorities.

Re: Phone Talk
I have know a few that regretfully gave out their phone number too quickly, but yahoo and other messengers have voice features, that would be a safe area to talk I would think!

Re: Phone Talk
Why not talk on the phone also, just hide your number until you feel comfortable enough with the other person to share it! Or as Chazzy said use any voive messenger

Re: Phone Talk
Hey, never thought of that phone number hiding thing, doneff! I have no idea how to do that, but I rarely use the phone anymore...
I think this thread brought out allot of good points, the main one being that no one should get offended if someone you met online that doesn't feel comfortable giving out their home or cell number to you, be glad you found someone who's got sense enough to be a little cautious, and you can find and work on other ways to get around that issue of disclosing personal contact information.
