REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
YOUR ALARM CLOCK GOES OFF, YOU HIT THE SNOOZE AND SLEEP FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES
HE STAYS UP FOR DAYS ON END AFRAID TO SLEEP
YOU TAKE A WARM SHOWER TO HELP YOU WAKE UP
HE GOES DAYS OR WEEKS WITHOUT RUNNING WATER
YOU COMPLAIN OF A HEADACHE AND CALL IN SICK
HE GETS SHOT AT AS OTHERS ARE HIT AND KEEPS MOVING FORWARD
YOU MAKE SURE YOUR CELL PHONE IS IN YOUR POCKET
HE CLUTCHES THE CROSS HANGING ON THE CHAIN NEXT TO HIS DOG TAGS
YOU MAKE YOUR BED AND HAVE CLEAN CLOTHES
HE WEARS THE SAME THING FOR WEEKS BUT MAKES SURE HIS WEAPON IS CLEAN
YOU SEE ONLY WHAT THE MEDIA WANTS YOU TO SEE
HE SEES THE BROKEN BODIES LYING AROUND HIM
YOU'RE ANGRY BECAUSE YOUR CLASS GOT HELD OVER 5 MINUTES
HE'S TOLD HE WILL BE HELD OVER FOR AN EXTRA 2 MONTHS
YOU WALK THE BEACH STARING AT PRETTY GIRLS
HE WALKS THE STREETS SEARCHING FOR INSURGENTS AND TERRORIST
YOU SIT THERE AND JUDGE HIM SAYING THE WORLD IS PROBABLY A WORSE PLACE BECAUSE OF MEN LIKE HIM
IF ONLY THERE WERE MORE MEN LIKE HIM
IF YOU SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS, COPY THIS AND SEND IT TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW, IF IT GETS TO ANOTHER VET WHO HASN'T SEEN IT YET, IT WILL BRING BACK MEMORIES.
THANK YOU

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
There's a local radio station here, that reminds people to thank the men and women in the armed forces. So just walk up to them and say, "thank you". You'll feel good for saying it and they'll feel good for hearing it... Try it, it works...

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
Someone special to me just got home from Iraq not long ago. It was wonderful to see him safe and sound. During his tour it reminded me that all our armed forces people are someones' loved one, and deserve our utmost respect.

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
All well said Azcapt, I'd only add one more point, which I think is the most important: This is not HIS war.

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
Regardless of your politics and viewpoint on war: God Bless those serving in the Armed Forces throughout the world.
Their efforts directly and indirectly perpetuate our freedoms here...
increasingly its a "global" world in which we live and the complexities socially, economically and politically this global interaction creates often demand a military presence of some sort..
the men and women that serve our country do so thru obedience irrespective of their own politics and with their personal motivatioin to contribute to upholding the ideals of America..

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
Regardless of my politics and viewpoint on war: It's a whole different thing defending your country, your own home, your family, from an intruder who is right outside your front door, and it's a whole different thing being in a foreign country as a peacemaker because some people decided that this is the only coutry that is a potential threat to the world.
I can't justify your statement about how DEMOCRACIES turn to arms in order to "interact", as you mentioned, economically and politically with other countries.
Anyway, huge topic really, and there's no need to mess azcapt's thread, from whom I apologize -once more- for being off topic.

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
Ya'all gotta make sure to keep politics out of the forum, or Absix will make some war all over your asses!
Seriously, several of us (mods) have mentioned this thread to each other, and all of us mods are keeping an eye on this one, and maybe another one or two. It's a hard job when a topic fall into a "grey area" to decide to keep or delele. We don't like deleting entire threads and avoid it like hell when we can.
Threads with a political theme have caused allot of problems in the past, and forced abs to take a stern stand against them and we willingly enforce that for him.
So...In review......soldiers, veterans, way cool! Politics..very, very bad!

oopps! i guess i brought the politics in to the forum..
sorry about that..it was meant to be non-political..
which btw: peterpan: my comment never mentioned democracies turining to arms to interact...
way off base.. the comment was more an observation that the nature of global interaction is such that military means become an inherent part of this..interaction..
just clarifying..thats all.
azcapt..ur thread is ALL GOOD!

Tropi, I apologize, I thought that by the phrase "the men and women that serve our country" you were referring to U.S. soldiers. Last time I checked U.S. is considered to be a democratic country, as a political system at least. Perhaps you don't think so, so yes, in that sense I'm way off base, thanks for the clarification.

Re: REMEMBER THOSE IN THE ARMED FORCES
Honoring soldiers of the usa is a great thing as I served in the us army and vietnam, although I was young and patriotic and thought I was fighting for my country and countrymen/women, today as I look back, I wonder sometimes if it was just for monitary gain/greed of our countries officials? As a seasoned citizen seeing the works of our past few presidents and the leadership of this country, loosing jobs, pensions, pay scales, medical benifits, and leting illegals flood this country with a modern day slave work force, I have very little hope anymore that this countries leaders knows anything about patriatism. They are all highly educated with law degrees have a license to steel and are doing a fine job of it, am I bitter and pissed off about it? Your fuckin right I am! So enough with the politics, and on with good things in life,,
