Do you believe things happen for a reason?
Now, I have always believed this to be true.....However after what happened the other day, I would have to say that All things happen for a reason!
I have met many friends here on webnaughty, and the other day I was going to meet someone I had been talking to for some time......He is a NYC firefighter and happen to be IN the World trade Centers when they fell with his brother. His brother sadly to say didn't make it, and he had been in a coma until that Dec.....(4 months)......You could just imagine the injuries and heartbreak......Not to mention he has been to Afghanistan many, many, times.......Seen things half of us will never see.......He was to be going back to Afghanistan one more time at the end of this month.......(he only has two months left in the military)....He has had a bad feeling about this last run over there......
Now, the point to this thread.......
We were supposed to meet the other day......Last I spoke to him on the phone, he was about a couple miles away and then we got disconnected....Damn cell phones....Right?
I never met him......Of course I called many times, and thought of many reasons, but ended going home, more worried than disappointed......Got home, left an email, and went to bed......Got up, called again, and again.......no messages...no nothing!......
10:30 the next morning I get the call......I wrecked my car, two drunk drivers hit me, cell phone got busted, and spent the night in the hospital.......Then he had to get a ride home....Now, you have to realize my number was in his cell phone, and he couldn't get it any way...So he couldn't call me for help......The state troopers from CT, took him to NY, then they took him home to his county.....At each county they had a new officer there waiting for him........He was about 2 hours from home
I then hear from him today, and he saw the Dr. again this morning......Well, he has a few fractures in his neck.......And because of that....They will not allow him to go over to Afghanistan!.....
So you tell me......Do things happen for a reason?.....

Re: Do you believe things happen for a reason?
nope, i dont believe things happen for any particular reason... at least not in the overall path of life sense. I'm a firm believer that life is random and chaotic leaving us with millions (if not more) possible endings. otherwise what's the use of even trying?
but for things like you screaming because I elbowed you in the boob, sure i do.

I think ife is full of choices and after we make a choice everthing that happens, happpens for a reason. Including more random choices.
Hope your boob gets better soon.

Re: Do you believe things happen for a reason?
maybe we can look at this in a different way.
the whole process of life is an integrated network of immense complexity. it is impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad because you never know what the ultimate consequences of the misfortune will be, and you never know what the ultimate consequences of good fortune will be. ultimate here is the key word, the event is still happening

Re: Do you believe things happen for a reason?
It's true...things do happen for a reason...in my case I have pissed off the gods either in a past life or the present and am now being blessed with one misfortune after another...when the resolution seems so simple...just tell me what I've done...I'll apologize...and life will go on and be peaceful once again

Re: Do you believe things happen for a reason?
I do believe things happen for a reason. He did not put us here without choices, that is what Free Will is all about, but still, if He means for something to happen, it will, no matter how you try to prevent it, even if you see it coming (which most of the time, of course, you don't!) things DO happen for a reason, and usually, it's to get us to do or keep us from doing, something that could be harmful, or put us on the wrong path. A "redirect" if you will, but the free will comes into play on whether or not we choose to take the path that is pointed out to us or not.
Do I believe He is there? you bet your I do. Have seen and felt Him move in my life many times and know without the shadow of a doubt that He redirects me when He knows I need to be.
This is in no way and indictment of anyone's personal opinion, just a statement of mine.

Reasong? You mean, like, re-song, like when anyone puts an Abba song in someone's head--again?

nyk, i am a firm believer in karma and everything happens for a reason. we meet the people that we r supposed to meet. marry the people we r supposed to meet and so on. i also believe that everyone has a guardian angel because there have been a few times that i should have been badly injured or killed in accidents and came out alive and more less healthy. i think mr fireman's angel was riding with him in that car.

Actually i think the name was.. Private Andrew Malone (instead of the angel that helped out the guy) or at least that's what one of the country songs was. I know who sang it but am drawing a blank for some odd reason. Want to say David Ball. Anyways...
Nyk woman... the way I see things, I don't think a lot of things goes for a 'reason' but I know that sometimes fate has a way of working out for one and another. It's all in the people at the right place at the right time. You just might be one of them in that situation... right place and right time.
Speaking of right place and time, if I may say, I've had some weird 'visuals' way back when about some stuff that's going on in my life but that's another story. Alright, why I just said that... I don't know
