..... some of your all time favorite writers? I have tons, but one that comes to mind is William Butler Yeats. He writes a lot of poems and stories about Irish fairies, folk tales, witches, pookas, etc......

Re: Who are......
If anyone has seen The Long Hot Summer, it was based on Faulkner's, "The Hamlet." That might give people an idea or get them interested in checking him out. His poetry rates up there with the best, in my opinion.

Re: Who are......
He wrote ummm....let me think....was it called "Sounder" or "The Sounder"??? One of his most famous, but not one of my favorties...he wrote a short story about a little boy hunting cottonmouth snakes, can't remember the name of that one or the one about the bear hunt...which just reminds me that I need to re-read him some more, libraries still exist in this world of internet....

Re: Who are......
I'm in Faulkner country, so I will echo that sentiment. Some others that come to mind are Charles Dickens, Jonathan Swift, George Orwell, William Blake, Robert Burns, both of the Brownings, Percy Shelley, and John Keats.
Some more modern favorites are W.E.B. Griffin, Tammi Hoag, and John Grisham (mostly because we are from the same hometown and I know him).
A school mate of mine has written two books. Her name is Susan Sims Moody, and her books are Flatlands and Mercy. I recommend theme highly. She refers to me indirectly in Flatlands.
Lastly, I love the writings of Sir Winston Churchill.

Winston Churchill used to fish with my grandfather in Germany in the river by their farm.

Re: Who are......
One of my favourite writers is Neil Diamond. His lyrics say so much about life, love and caring. Two of my favourites of his are "Forever In Blue Jeans" and "Desiree".
FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS
Money talks
But it don't sing and dance
And it don't walk
And long as I can have you here with me
I'd much rather be
Forever in blue jeans
Honey's sweet
But it ain't nothin' next to baby's treat
And if you pardon me
I'd like to say
We'll do okay
Forever in blue jeans
Maybe tonight
Maybe tonight, you and I
All alone by the fire
Nothing around
But the sound of my heart
And your sighs
Money talks
But it don't sing and dance
And it don't walk
And long as I can have you here with me
I'd much rather be
Forever in blue jeans, babe
DESIREE
It was the third of June
On that younger day
Well I became a man
At the hands of a girl
Almost twice my age
And she came to me
Just like a morning sun
And it wasn't so much
Her words as such
As the way they were sung
It was the way they were sung
Desiree
Oh, Desiree
There I was found
By the sweet passion sound
Of you loving song
Time was right, the night was long
Remember, Desiree
Oh Desiree
Somehow I knew
I could only have you
'Til the morning light
If only for that single night
Sweet Desiree, you made it right.
Then came the fourth of June
On that sleepless night
Well I tossed and I turned
While the thought of her burned
Up and down my mind
For she was there and gone
Without one regret
But she continues on
Like the words of a song
I could not forget
I could not forget
Desiree
Oh, Desiree
There I was found
By the sweet passion sound
Of your loving song
Time was right, the night was long
Remember, Desiree
Oh, Desiree
And though somehow I knew
I could only have you
'Til the morning light
The night was long, the time was right
Do you remember, Desiree

Re: Who are......
If any of you like humor, you might try anything by Mike McMannus. He takes things that have happened through his life especially childhood & exploits it. My favorite is his book "A Dog Named Strange" about a stray dog he adopted. A good non-fiction book about a guy who escaped from every jail he was ever put in, " Hacksaw Jones.. Forget the author though

Re: Who are......
I guess for me it would be the complete works of LOUIS LAMOUR--He writes about life the way he lived it and remembers it. Everytime I pick up a book written by him, especially a paperback novel, I usually dont put it down until I am finished. I hope to have read every book he has ever published by the time I pass thru this life.
