Re: new topic for Chazzy
I love this! Keep talking! Just daydreaming about a vacation helps...I know I can't go anywhere right now, Dad's not doing well, and I've got 9 animals to care for here, most were abandoned, and some are "special needs". So just a long walk on a nice morning, or a browsing through a local antique store is about as close as I can get to a vacation!

Chazzy have you ever been to Canada?I know most people love going to the warm places, But some areas here in canada a quite beautiful like british columbia. And of course Ontario to if your going to the right spot. I assume most don't wanna come because they think we live in igloos up here we only do that 6 months outa the year.

Actually, I have thought about Canada, I'd love to go there someday...I love wilderness, nature, wildlife, and I love winter as much as the other seasons! A colder climate is very appealing to me!

Kitten with those wings of yours, you should be able to go anywhere in a heart beat.
Let's see, I've done the Canada thing, done the Mexico thing, done East Coast, done West Coast, done the Las Vegas thing, done the big D thing, OK now it's time for the Europe or down under thing. Then I can maybe work on the genealogy in Europe.

I love the notion of visiting Europe too, I'm a big-ass history freak, and you can't get any more historical than Europe, it would be so difficult to pull myself away and come home till I saw everything!

Re: new topic for Chazzy
Now if ya like cool places and lots of wild life how about a trip to Antarctic lots of seals and my favorite the penguins I seen they have this Cruise ship that takes you to the ice pack and after a day you come back to a nice warm cabin to relax. Always wanted to do that I'm mean how many folks will ever visit there in there live I also recommend Isle Royale up in the up of Michigan Lots of moose and wild all over for those who have never hear of it it's an island in Lake Superior very remote and relaxing you have to order tickets a year ahead of time to even go, not many folks visit there either.

Now listen folks, I've been all over this great earth, well a lot of it anyway, & one place I've been that was way cool & should fit right in with all of you on this site, THE FIGI ISLANDS. average temp is 85* but bring along a bikini for the cold days. The rest of the time is clothing optional. Beautiful beaches, awesome sunsets, great people & tasty drinks

Re: new topic for Chazzy
We can never have enough Parks! Hell, we had one state park wiped out here in Missouri, the largest electric utility company here (Ameren UE) had a huge reservoir near the Tom Sauk/Johnsons Shut ins park that broke, washed away two people and all three of their children, all did survive though. They're trying to ready it for re-opening by Memorial Day, but it'll be decades before the area is even near what it use to be.

Your right Chazzy, no such thing as too many parks, Thank God for Teddy Roosevelt, cuz without him we'd still be without any. By the way , Chazzy, did you see the thread where I was trying to tell you where Beaver City is?? Also There is a Beaver City OK. just on the border south of Dodge City Kans. & a Beaver Crossing Colo.

QUOTE (Chazzy @ May 24, 2006, 05:53)So...do ya'all have any Beaver Festivals there? You mean do the ladies parade around with their skirts up?? No can't say they do, not purposely anyway, Dammit. By the way Chaz sorry to hear your Dads not doing well, mine neither, Don't get it. Never in his life been to a doctor for being sick till last year. He's never even had a headache, which I don't understand... I spent 17 years of my life trying to give him one... HA HA. I regret it now, but why they never kicked me out when I was little I'll never know. But last year he had a heart attack, they got that all fixed, & then about 4 months ago one of his moles turned into melonoma skin cancer, which his brother died from 6 years ago, but not before they cut 1/2 his face off. He died a very slow & painful death. This mole was born from being in the sun when he was young, the doctors said. So for all you sun worshipers out there, Better think about it. Actually Chaz , U & I have something else in common. I'm a history nut too. I love to hunt for Indian artifacts, not for profit, but to save them. I read anything about hoistory I can get my hands on, & a few years ago they were going to tear down this building that used to be a german prisoner of war barracks from WWII. Anyway one of the prisoners had painted religous pictures on its walls. I donated 3 days cutting them out of the wall & getting them to the museum.,

Daddy is showing some improvement, and he's stubborn as hell, won't sit still for a minute!
You have any photos of that POW wall? I really would love to see that! My parents are volunteers at a local history museum, I've donated tons of stuff to it, and love to go visit when they are working, I just can't spend enough time looking at all that and sometimes I get to help identify some of their "whatisit" items.

No Chaz, I haven't ever taken any photos of it, the local newspaper did but they don't show up too good. But I will make a point of getting some taken & sent to you. Anyplace in particular you want them sent or do you want me to send them to your site here. I felt pretty good about saving those pictures. I had to cut them out of the wall very, very carefully cuz some of them were cracking & I was afraid of breaking them. Then I laid them down on some plywood & glued them on cuz without that they would have broke. The guy that painted them was really good, & then he wrote a passage out the Bible under each picture in German. His name is on them, I always wanted to try & see if he was still alive, & tell him I saved his work. What do you think, find him or let the past die??

Re: new topic for Chazzy
Send them to me here, when I'm online I'm always logged in here, I'd really love to see them!
I'd say track him down, for one, any additional information about his time in the POW barricks will add allot of importance and value to the paintings,(not just a monetary value but a value as a historical record) I have the highest respect for any veterans of a war, and I spend as much time as I can listening to thier personal accounts, they seem very willing to share, and often really appreciate that someone else is eager to hear them talk about.

I feel the same way, I like talking to the vets who were actually there. They're the ones who've seen it, done it. The ones who can teach the world what they already know, mostly our mistakes. History is how we learn from others mistakes. Also my granddad on my Dads side was quite a go getter in WWI was decorated & got a personal letter from "Black Jack Pershing" his C.O. My Dad was in a Tank Buster Unit in Italy, Austria, & Germany. I lost one brother in Nam. I done my time in the Air Force, but saw no combat , even tho I flew in a "Interceptor Wing" . So the only way I canlearn what they must have gone thru, is to ask, read, or watch documentaries. I'd like to find this artist, but some Vets don't want to talk about it. My Dad saw some very ugly things over there. He told us boys about it & showed us his photo album, but then told us to never ask about it again. It was painful for him to see those things. But at the same time 1,500 WWII vets a day are dying. They're in they're 80's & 90's now. I know I can't have much time left if I'm ever to find him.

I still say track him down if you can...maybe find a member of the family and ask how they think he would feel about bringing up that part of his past...it would be so cool to find him, and see if he has done any art before and after that period of his life!
