Drug habits...
This topic came to mind cuz I feel soooooo bad today!
What are your "drug habits"? Do you take something at the first sign or symptom and nip it in the bud or wait till you're screamin from pain, or bedridden from the flu?
Do you rely on OTC pills or prefer herbal or homeremedies.
Are you the type to just "work through it" and carry on as usual or crash in bed and whine like a baby? Any of you look up your symptoms in a , health websites, home remedy sites or call/email your mommy?

Re: Drug habits...
In order for me to take an otc or perscription I have to be so sick I can't move. Fortunaltely, I don't remember the last time I was that sick. Usually I'll just make a hot toddy and work through it.

Re: Drug habits...
I hate to say this, but I rarely get sick.......However, I do get headaches.....Bad enough that I have to go to the hospital......Unfortunately the only meds that will work are pain meds......And when they don't work, thats when I end up in the hospital....I usually never take anything OTC.....I honestly don't have time to be sick...and if I do get sick, I am one that just wants to be left alone!.....And with a house full of kids and a lazy husband, that doesn't seem to happen!....
As a matter of fact, if you don't see me here, I have a headache!

Re: Drug habits...
I unfortuanetly don't do well with the drug thing...have only started falling apart as of late and it is a real struggle to admit that hey I might need those little pills but only if they don't interfere with my daily routines...guess those who know me have figured out by now..I have no time to be ill

Do you get migraines? I use to, hurt so bad I'd beg anyone to just shoot me! Do you get the "post pain euphoria" thing when they finally go away? I remember, even if it was 3 am, if the migraine finally left, it felt sooo good, I'd get right up and mop floors, do laundry and actually felt high as hell just from having the relief from the pain.

Has your doctor ever recommended an MRI? You might need to ask him/her about that.

Re: Drug habits...
After having a clear MRI, my doctor put me on some stuff called ametriptoline (sp?). Sounds like something you'd use in a homemade bomb! lol It was originally used for depression. It didn't work. The only thing that works for me now is excedrin. I have to limit myself with 'em, though. I started getting stomach pains and nausea.
My sister in laws swears by herbal medicine..... Someone help me out here. Is it feverfew for headaches? I heard that you have to take them for a while to actual start feeling the relief, though.
I sure do hope your headaches go away or at least minimize in intensity. I know how it can be with the kiddos and all. And yes, that's usually the time when they need you the most

I get headaches on a nearly daily basis. Sometimes if I catch um early enough a couple of Excedrin Migrains and or a dose of Ginsing do the trick but more often then not I have to use the really great heating pad I found on line. It gets really hot really fast then you let it cool off and repeate severl times. Heat is the ticket, give it a try

Re: Drug habits...
Its funny you said that, although I would assume yours comes from stress as well, but heat doesn't work for me.....Ice does, or believe it or not pressure on my head works too, but only when applying it.....So I try to wear a tight baseball cap!.....

Re: Drug habits...
Any of you go for the "comfort food" thing when you're feeling bad? I usually go for hot tea, toast with blackberry jam....just soothing for some reason.

Remember the Addams Family? Uncle Fester used to put his head in a vice to cure his headachs! The tight hat does give me a moment of relief to and dark glasses help the eye strain. I use to rap my head really tight with a heat pad and cook it till the pain stopped. It never failed. Maybe thats why I can remember shit anymore?

Re: Drug habits...
I also get migraine headaches, thank god I've not had one for sometime. Drugs don't usually work with me either. I will get them to a point that I get sick to my stomach and want to throw up which then makes me even sicker. All I can do is go back to bed and sleep it off.

I don't like taking meds. I worry about what will happen if I HAVE to take something routinely. Anyway, I get headaches also and the Exedrine migraine usually works for me along with sleep.

Ya know, when I had migraines, I use to "sleep it off" till I realized I may not actually be sleeping, it seemed like maybe the pain would reach such an intense level where I just couldn't take it anymore, and would pass out.
One minute I'd rather die than spend another second with the pain, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up, then the pain would start increasing to an intolerable level again...a horrible cycle till the migraine finally went away.

And RC, you're absolutely right! My mom had headaches all the time... really bad ones... it was too late when we found out she had a brain aneurysm.
