What does being DOM mean?
My girlfriend says that she enjoys being a SUB (but doesn't need to be, so maybe its not a fetish after all). She also says that I could be a DOM.
Apparently this is different than TOP and BOTTOM and S&M. My question is: What does being a DOM mean?
I'm not into hurting someone, but do enjoy 'taking' a woman in bed. Can anyone please provide a detailed description of what DOM/SUB means?

Re: What does being DOM mean?
The difference is that Top and bottom is the bedroom kink not the D/s Lifestyle. Being Dom is something in your heart. Its not about hurting someone. My wife and I live a 24/7 D/s Lifestyle and I have never hurt her in the way that I think you are saying. I do discipline her if she has done something wrong. What you need to ask your girlfriend is if she is looking for the bedroom kink or the Lifestyle. I hope this helps.

Re: What does being DOM mean?
Thanks Mike. Yes, that does help.
I asked her and she only wants to be dominated in the bedroom, which is fine by me.

Re: What does being DOM mean?
A true Sub/Dom relationship goes beyond a sexual act or session, from what I understand, it's a culture of it's own, with beliefs, by-laws, and philosphy, that the participants are very much committed to. I love being a submissive slave during sex, but true slave training is something entirely different. What most couples do in the way of sub/dom sex, is nothing more than "roleplaying" , pretending and copying the behaviour of a Master and Slave. Which is, by the way, in my opinion, is SO FREAKIN' FUN!!! And if just "playing" is so good, it does cause me to curiously wonder just how intense, and extrodinary
a real Sub/Dom relationship must be. Now, if anyone who has the knowlegde in this area recognizes that I have really missed the mark with this post, please correct me and set me straight ! I love to learn !!

Re: What does being DOM mean?
Thd D/s relationship is incredibly complex. The amount of trust & the deep understanding of eachothers psyche needed to create & maintain this relationship brings this cpl as close,if not closer, than traditional marriage in my opinion...
Chazzy, there is a big diff between a sub & a slave. As a sub I have a "Safeword".A way out if things become overwhelming for any reason whatsoever. If I were a "Slave"I wouldnt have that option.

Re: What does being DOM mean?
This culture is amazing in my opinion. There's allot to it for sure.
A slave/master relationship is a pretty heavy committment, with different stages....theres training, a contract/vow, a collar, etc...it's a serious committed relationship.
Dominant/submissive is just that...dominant and submissive regardless of who or even if you're in a relationship. (Dom/Sub is also a bit different than a Top/Bottom.)
Always a good topic to talk about!

Re: What does being DOM mean?
Hi yepper well top/ bottom is really a bedroom thing with sex as in a more dominant being a top , can also mean as far as i am aware when two or more slaves / subs involved a more dominant slave / sub than the other , it is very complex and also very flexible within what your lifestyle is and what all like to do
