Oddly enough.....

I had my wisdom tooth taken out last Wednesday... had a most wonderful kiss on Friday, and now there's something wrong with the muscles in my jaw. One side of my face is swollen and I can barely open my mouth to eat a sandwich! The pain is unbearable, sometimes

Then again, they've got me on antibiotics for a slight infection, vicadin for pain, and naproxen for pain and swelling. If it doesn't get better by this afternoon, they're gonna set me up an appt. with an oral surgeon. I have no idea what he'd have to do to fix the problem!!

Could be "dry socket"...you might wanna google that and find a good dental site that will explain the condition, sypmtoms and even (yuck) photos.
Dry socket usually happens when a lower tooth is pulled, but it can also happen with an upper tooth. What it is in a nutshell is...when you have a tooth pulled, it leaves that gaping gum area behind, and ideally this will form a blood clot that will diminish as time goes on and your gums start healing up over "tooth hole". A dry socket occurs when something like sucking on a straw, cigarette or someone elses face, cause you to loose that blood clot....it hurts like a mother, anyone whose ever suffered one can tell ya that!

I appreciate the info, chaz, but we know it's not that. I felt the blood clot that formed and the dentist confirmed that it isn't dry socket. It has something to do with the muscles on that side. The wisdom tooth was so far back, they think it may be from having to open my mouth so wide for a long period of time. The naproxen is a muscle relaxer, so maybe it'll kick in soon. If my jaw doesn't get better by the end of the week I'm gonna insist they do something about it. I still can't open it wide enough to eat solid food. I can't even yawn like a normal person! It's driving me nuts!
