Yes in some countries women do in fact get circumcised. It's not something that happens in the USA. It can diminish the feeling in that area. It's not something that is recommended at all. In fact I would think that you would be very hard pressed to find a doctor that will even think of doing it here.

Hey, some pretty awful things are done to children in allot of cultures as a ritual of coming of age.
How much should be accepted as part of the human right to practice religion, tradition and keep a culture alive, and how much is just cruelty? The mutilation it takes for someone to wear large ear plates and lip plates? Piercings? But Genital mutilation, is something I'm so happy to see organized efforts to halt.
Circumcision here is accepted because at one time it was thought to be a way of preventing the spread of STD's. But now with the promotion of condom use, and the rise of condom use, does anyone think that the circumcision of male infants should be halted in this country?

Everyone knows that circumcising well not prevent the spread of STD's. However I have a brother-in-law that had the procedure done late in life, early 30's, and he's glad he had it done.

I'm not necessarily sure if it should be halted all together, seeing as how it's a "religious" thing. I, for one, did not have any of my boys circumcised and neither is my hubby. He teaches them proper hygiene, which is VERY important! I do think it's a pain that no child should have to go through... but like I said, I'm kinda torn on the subject........ NO PUN INTENDED!

I don't know much about it really, (my husband, a Brit, had it done when he was about 7 yrs old, and he does remember it, who the hell wouldn't??)
As far as the myth about preventing STD's, I think that came from the large outbreaks after major wars when the soldiers came home and sexual activity would soar, during the 40's and '50's when teens started getting their own cars and getting around more sexual activity again surged.
But I don't know why or when circumcision became a medical "must do" here? I know some men are scarred and overtly "bent" from the procedure not going well and some that even have to have further corrective surgery done.
I'd really like to know how necessary it is, and since the STD prevention no longer applies, why is it still done, and what were all the reasons behind doing it in our earlier history?

circumsion goes all the way back to the early old testament bible days its stated in either end of books of Genesis and also in Exodus as of religion goes...............
yes i am circumsized they say after a boy is born there is no pain for circumsion but for men who get circumsized later in life more pain and also takes a long time to recover from and its also a way to keep the penis clean as of health goes
but i feel sorry for the girls in other countries/cultures who have to go thru this procedure at becoming of age i think its wrong due to their age and taking the feeling away from them i truthfully think all girls should be able to feel everything that is good about sex

Ok, honestly, we had our son circ. for health reasons and my husband is - it is what we are familiar with. I have never been with a guy who is not and worry about the cleanliness.

for us guys its where they remove the foreskin off the head of the penis
ok for guys who are not circumsized have to slowly pull down their foreskin to put a condom on or other sexual play thats the other difference

You might want to look at the profile a little closer, I know that on my profile there is no option for circumcised....So if your reading that someone is, it is definitely a mans profile....,Could be a couple, but the men are the only ones with that option to answer it....Just like we have bra size!.....

I had my son circumcised because of the fact that my dad and brother is... and.. other than that... i dont know. I don't know anything about them being circumcised and the what nots. If someday i'm with a guy that doesnt want the kids to be.. then that'll be fine by me.

I'm not circumcised and all my former girlfriends said I was their first guy who wasn't and they didn't mind. In fact, most preferred it uncut. As for cleanliness, it is just a small extra bit in the shower to clean, but that is no problem. During sex, if a condom isn't used, a woman usually gets extra pleasure because the foreskin moves up and down to go along with your movements. Needless to say, I've never received any complaints.
