Well, my 10 year old, bless his heart, didn't win anything. But that's ok! He's a straight A student and a future meteorologist. I think that's gonna stick, too, 'cause he's been sayin' it since he was 4!
My daughter won 5th place in the 75 yard dash. Not too bad. She's a straight A student, too, but she wants to be an artist/animator  Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.... just hope she makes some money doin' it! 'Cause that girl has some expensive taste!  And, no! I have no idea where she got it from 
Well, today's the day!  Hopefully they'll have the results of the ultrasound pretty quick. FINGERS CROSSED!

Got the ultrasound done. Thank God they didn't have to poke him with anything!!! They're supposed to send the results to his doctor today and he's supposed to give me a call. The ultrasound technician said she didn't see anything out of the ordinary, so that's great!! But I won't breath a sigh of relief till I hear from the doctor!
I'll let y'all know as soon as I find something out.

Okie dokie.... The ultrasound was all normal. He's sending us to a neurologist on August 22nd (can't get in any sooner but he thinks it'll be all right to wait that long). Said he wants to check him for atrophy of the muscles...... ?? I'm about to check that out on line. I asked him about lymphedema.... he said he doesn't think that's it because they very rarely see it in children as young as him......
The wait continues
Meanwhile.... I'm gonna enjoy my tater and hug and kiss and love him to no end!!!!!!!!!

All righty, then..... muscle atrophy makes no sense at all. He stands on his leg just fine. Both of them! They're definitely not weak! I'm thinking lymphedema and if it turns out to be that, y'all might see me on the news goin' to prison for murdering a doctor for puttin' my tater through all this shit!!! If it's not that, it's just overreaction to nothing! *praying reeeeeeaaaaaally hard!!*

I'll tell you what, my heart will be in my stomach for the next 2 and a half months, that's for sure! We've been doing some research on this "muscle atrophy" thing and it's scaring the shit out of me! but we really don't think that's what it is.
He checked for a wilm's tumor because of his "larger" leg, now he's checking for muscle atrophy because of the "smaller" leg. But the smaller leg is proportionate with the rest of his body, not the large one, so I think it'll be ruled out, thank God!!
He stood for a few seconds on his own last night and that makes me feel oh so better!!!!!
Lymphedema's not curable (yet), but if that's it, it's managable with excercise, diet, and wrapping the leg... Maybe he'll listen to me after this and try to find out if that's it.
Anyhow, I will keep y'all informed as time goes by.

Keep at it, Moon, and hell, doesn't matter how much you love and trust your current doctor...there's nothing wrong at all with getting a second opinion, sometimes a fresh look with a fresh pair of eyes can spot or see something that's being missed! Most doctors recommend it...and at least it'll make you feel less helpless and even more actively involved....something to consider.

As always Moon, Im thinking about you and tater!.....However remember, there is only so much we can do with worrying......He needs you to be there for him.....As hard as this is, and believe me I know, you will both get through this, is just may always be a struggle worth fighting!......
My son when he was born had to go to a Pulminoligist, he had a floppy windpipe in the end, which he eventually grew out of, but out of all the horrible tests I had to put him through to rule out everything else, I knew in my heart it was something that had to be done, and it was well worth it in the end!.......Although, he still happens to get a horrible cough, and usually croupy like, in the summer, every year, where he can't breathe and we end up in the emergency room, this years visit he was actually admitted.....Now staying in a hospital bed, next to your 3 yr old, with an IV, and they can't move, really sucks!.....But as mothers, somehow, we always end up doing what we need to do!....

The insurance company dropped the ball BIG TIME on gettin' his insurance renewed.... new appt. set for November *sigh*
But he's walking, crouching, and climbing all over the furniture. Any doctor would tell you that's not a sign of muscle atrophy.

Another update
Well, the neurologist took a look at him and decided that he needs an MRI done of his brain, spine and leg (the one that's larger than the other), and a DNA blood test to look for a mutated gene. He can't diagnose him with it, yet, but he wants to find out if he has something called neurofibromatosis.
It's not good news but it's not exactly terrible news, either. For one thing, he may not even have it! If he does, it's a life long thing but NOT life threatening! I won't post any web sites here, but whoever wants to can look it up and see what it's all about.
They usually look for 6 or more "cafe-au-lait" spots on the body. He only has two but they're very large. He also said that his leg being the way it is is not common at all and needs to be checked thoroughly.
His MRI and DNA test is scheduled for the 14th of December. We go back for the MRI results on the 19th but the DNA results won't be back for 6 weeks.
I'll keep y'all posted.

I sure hope the new tests aren't too invasive or painful for you dear lil Tater. I know it's gotta be so hard on you too...but you got intense "momma love" that there is no end to!

What gives me hope, though, is that every test they've done for something or other has come out negative. But I'm not letting my gaurd down. I fear that, if I do, everything will come crashing down.

Had to take Tater to see the optometrist yesterday. One of the symptoms of NF are nodules on the nerves or your eyes or spots in the iris. They didn't find anything but want us to come back every 6 months or so to keep checking. Poor baby... they had to dilate his pupils. We have tinted windows on the van and still had to put our jackets over them. I can't wait for the next two weeks to come and go!!

Moon, my prayers are with you, your son and family. Having a special needs child with learning disabilities (OCD, and ADHD), he went through so many specialist, from neurologists for mri's and testings, to psychologists for therapy, to Easter Seal to help him with his large and fine motor skills, through special education with all his schooling, to Yale University for testings and studies, my heart goes out to you sweetie, we do everything and anything for our children, and to make sure they are safe and happy. Tomorrow is his birthday, turning 23, is working part time at a hardware store where he has worked the last four years, and he is doing wonderful.

Stay strong girl. I know the waiting gets pretty nerve racking but as they love to say..it takes time. Been there, I thank God it was never with kids...would have gone "postal" waiting. Got to the hospital at 6:45 a.m. yesterday. Got home around 1:30. His mri went fine. He's a little trooper, I tell ya'! As soon as I got back to him in recovery, he wanted to get down and run around. Nurse said he was still "drunk" and might fall. He's never been the type to sit still for more than two seconds Went home and let him pig out... poor baby hadn't ate all morning. He was sooooo hungry. Got his energy back and play for 2 hours straight!
The hospital did call us when we were halfway home... said that the lab technician forgot to give us a paper to sign for them to proceed with the DNA test. There was no way we could go back. Had to pick the kiddos up from school soon. Anyhow, they faxed it to our local country store, I signed 'em, faxed 'em back and everything's fine. I swore to my tater that, if we missed the window on getting this test done, there's no way I'm letting them poke him again!
We go back to the neurologist on Tuesday to find out that results of the mri... I'll keep ya' posted.

Glad to hear he did ok with test. Tough on little kids when they can't understand why they have to stay still (they have way too much energy  wish we could bottle it.) I hope doc has some good news for you when you take him back. Give him a big hug. Will keep your family in thoughts and prayers. Take care lady.

Well, went in for the results of the MRI yesterday. It's clear!  The only thing they found was the soft tissue in his leg is overgrown. They gave me the number for the orthopedic doctor. I set up an appointment for Feb. 14... the neurologist said it may be something called hemihypertrophy. They shouldn't have to do any tests because they're in the same hospital and can pull up the mri results in their system.
God, I just want this to end........

Update
Went to the orthopedic doctor yesterday. He said it's definitely hemihypertrophy. He said that all we can do now is wait and keep watch. The increased growth of the soft tissue is only one part of it. It can sometimes lead to one bone growing faster than the other. In that case he said they can put something in their leg to slow down the growth. Medical technology amazes me. He said that they can make a childs crooked leg straight again by inserting something or other on one side..... can't remember exactly what he said. Anyhow, hemihypertrophy is also associated with the wilm's tumor (a tumor on the liver, cancer). They ran an ultrasound several months ago to check for that and didn't find anything. The MRI didn't show anything, either. He said that doctors are still arguing about how often a child should have an ultrasound to make sure a tumor doesn't form but he'll get in touch with Tater's pediatrician and leave that up to him. Every year, six months, three months. Not sure yet. He also said that wilm's tumors are rare and if they form, it's usually in the first 8 years of life. The orthopedic doctor wants to see him once a year unless they find something within that time.
Sooooooooo, we pretty much just need to keep tabs on the situation and hopefully it'll never come to the worst case scenario. And with the frequent ultrasounds, if it does, we'll catch it early.
I want to thank y'all for your thoughts and prayers... they've really helped me through all of this. I'll definitely keep y'all posted!

I have just read all your posts, and wanted to say, you have a real brave little boy, all i can say is as a mum i understand what it is like to have test done on our children and have to wait before anyone will tell you anything. My youngest has had problems most of his life and even recently another problem has been found. But it doesn't seem to bother him, children are so tough. If you need to chat, please feel free to message me. our children are tough little cookies, but sometimes it's the grown ups that need the hugs and reassurance.

Granted, Tater's too young to know what's going on right now, but even when they're a bit older... it's just like another trip to the doctor for them. They may not like it but when they get home, they're their usual selves... playing and having fun day after day. As parents, we have to sit down every day, take a deep breathe and thank God for bringing them into our lives and sharing every moment we can with them
