Yes, definitely in public... except for one time almost a year ago when I met a guy at his house. We sat outside by the pool within a privacy fence and talked for a few hours. We're still good friends. We had been chatting online on and off for a couple months, by the time we met I was nervous but felt very comfortable meeting him, as if we were already friends. So, sometimes the rules are negotiable. It depends on how well you get to know someone before you meet.

It would most definetely have to be a public place. You never know if people are who they say they are. And besides might as well talk to make triple sure before you do anything you might regret later.

Public places are good for first encounters.
It takes the edge off of the unknown.

I agree with a public place such as a restaurant. A bar might not be the best place because some men try to pick up women there and that can be unpleasant if you are trying to get to know the person you are with.
I like the idea of going for a walk in a park where there are other people around so it feels safer and more comfortable for both. Sitting down on a park bench to discuss things is a nice venue too but it must be in public.

I try to consider her point of view,for sure Public,perhaps a restaurant its not as noisey or potentally threating as a bar.

While it's always a temptation to just meet at someones house, a hotel [motel] or at my house, public is the best. Not to mention safest for those involved.
