Re: Landscape and Gardening thread
I spent Monday hauling off the oleanders that we cut down from around the house. Those things grow fast and furious! The kiddos wanted to help so I left them some sticks. Can't have 'em touchin' the poisonous leaves

My neighbor has one of those! Last year it was just loaded with great fruit, and he told me he's had that tree 20 years and that was the first year it produced.
Moon might know something helpfull about this. Maybe it's a pollination problem?
I need some suggestions for some low plants (around a foot tall) with a good blooming season that will do well in a very shady area.

I won't say one way or the other for sure until I talk to my hubby about it.... until then, I'm thinkin' it could either be that they haven't matured enough yet or you may have some type of parasite. If the fruit is split open, it could be a number of birds and bugs gettin' to 'em before they have a chance to ripen. That's what happens to ours.
Chazzy, the burning bush gets a bit bigger than you want but you can keep them trimmed down. Ours are doing well with mostly shade during the day... they catch an hour or two of the evening sun. I'll get back to you with more suggestions.

Re: Landscape and Gardening thread
Chazzy try spraing it with some diluted dishsoap for bugs. If its a growth problem, try putting some epsome salt by it. Plants just love that stuff. Turns grass green overnite, makes tomatoes sweeter. Try it.

Re: Landscape and Gardening thread
I talked to my hubby about the fruit. He agreed with what I said about parasites... not so much that it's not mature, though. He also said that you might try thinning out the fruit. We had to do that to our peach trees. They'll get to where they'll grow in bundles of four or 5. Try to thin 'em out a bit and see how that does

Re: Landscape and Gardening thread
Well tonite, I gotta go out and do "frost protection patrol"..
I plan on just using regular sheets for rose bushes, I got a couple bales of straw around here, so I figure on using that for my Hostas and such...
I was thinking of moving some heavy pots of plants to the crawl space under the later addition to this house.
Did I just mention anything here that I should reconsider, or do differently?
Will my plan work?

Re: Landscape and Gardening thread
Maybe the founder belongs to webnaughty???
Well, update on the peaches - they all froze. Will have to try the spraying again next year to see if it works.
The tips of my new blueberries froze - any suggestions on whether or not I should cut the brown dead stem part off? Will it stunt their growth?
