Re: Snakes actual reptile snake
I know a little. Unfort. its always a pain in the ass to get them to eat if they haven't for a while. How much do you know about them? Have you checked his enclosure for temp on the hot and cool side to make sure its not too hot or cold. Humidity levels? If his sheds are in one piece then that should be good. Have you given him a good check over for any parasites or anything else abnormal? What and how often are you feeding him and how big is he? What kind of substrate is he on?
Tell me as much as you can and try to be specific. If his temps are good, his shed is good, he's not ingested any substrate to become impacted, no wheezing, snot, or holding head up consistently(resp infection), he looks healthy, not getting too skinny, sometimes reptiles do this. I've seen them go quite a while without eating then decide all of the sudden that their hungry again. But I wouldn't let it go too much longer if their aren't any symptoms or other reasons for him not to eat. Do you have a water dish in there? Do you allow a cool down period similar to that in nature?
I'm not sure about pythons but I know its been proven in box turtles that if you don't allow hibernation after some years it will cause brain damage. Though I wouldn't hibernate the snake now because of it not eating.
Not sure if any of that helped but without actually seeing the snake and enclosure it the best I can do. If your really concerned right now I would just take a visit to the vet for a fecal and blood test. Since its not eaten in so long you do run the risk of loosing him.

Re: Snakes actual reptile snake
All of what CG said is right. One reason may be that his environment is too cold...... also, some snakes can go several months without eating. Some snakes will eat in autumn and not eat again till spring, no matter what you do. Their breeding season is usually in the winter time.... another time they won't eat much or anything, for that matter. Typical pythons in the wild are much skinnier than captive ones, anyhow..... give it a while... he may eat pretty soon.

Re: Snakes actual reptile snake
thanks CG and MH every bit of that I have been watching for not losing weight. He is about 4ft long about as big and round as a golf ball or a little bigger. I have been thinking he is hibernating. He is in a 32 gal breeder cage good heat well vent. He will eat soon I hope. Thanks.
Was really shock to see females that actually know this stuff.

Re: Snakes actual reptile snake
If the temp is about 86 then I wouldn't think he was hibernating. That has to be induced in captivity. I'd just keep a watchful eye and hopefully he eats for you soon. As a last case resort only you could force feed. It has been known to help in some cases. I would just keep that as a last option cause you can dislocate jaws and it usually breaks teeth.

Speaking from experience, we have two snakes (a rainbow boa and a ball python) and it is the time of the year that they will go without eating. Our python went for almost five months before she ate anything. Just keep an eye on it's weight, if it starts getting too thin, then I would get it to the vet. But, I would bet that it is fine and as soon as it starts getting warmer it will eat for you. It could also be because it's cage is not warm enough. Do you have a feeding tank for it? Sometimes it helps to move them from their normal surroundings. Another trick is when it is warm outside, take them outside for some fresh air. That has helped us a few times. I hope this helps you some.
Good luck!

Re: Snakes actual reptile snake
No problem...I was freaking a little bit when ours did that too. Jack reassured me that it was normal for them to go thru spells where they didn't eat. She did loose a good bit of weight, but when she was ready to eat, we started out will a small rat and worked her back up to the large ones. We also found out that she prefers her food to be live. She will not anything that is not moving. They like the hunt...plus it's cool to watch her sneak up on it...especially when she pulls it up into the air...
Glad we could help!

Ohhhh.....they're really not that bad! We only have two left since the move. Mtn. kingsnakes and I actually love them. Very very pretty. Kind of expensive though so when we tried to sell we had no takers but once you get used to them they're not bad at all.

I wouldn't want a snake for a pet, but I've learned to respect and appreciate them, blacksnakes mainly.
Blacksnakes have kept mice from eating my chicken feedstored in the shed, the one that frequented the crawl space kept mice out of my home and blacksnakes will do battle, and devour copperheads.
I also learned to live with spiders, brown recluse, no...they have to die! But those wonderful huge hairy wolfspiders will take care of any other destructive or invasive insects thay you may have....
