Lonesome Dove the Making of an Epic
Lonesome Dove the Making of an Epic which I watched today. Also found on YouTube.
Filmed on the now well-known Moody Ranch outside Del Rio, Texas. Real ranch horses were used for authenticity during the filming of the movie. Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall did their own stunts in the film.
Duvall's main mount for the movie was a race bred Quarter Horse. In one scene as he was riding across a desert, shots were fired off causing his mount to buck. Any other rider would have been injured, but not Duvall.
Captain Woodrow F. Call, is played by Tommy Lee Jones. In truth, Charles Goodnight in real life was even more fascinating than the fictional Woodrow Call.
Ricky Schroder had never ridden a horse and learned to ride in nine days.
There were four pigs. They were the first pigs to walk all the way from Texas to Montana. The pigs seen were two months old to two years old.
