I'm not a newbie
I was actually a moderator here for quite a few years. Left abruptly after someone local recognized me and told the ex there were nudes of me online. That's not a big deal, but it meant that someone else might have told my daughter's. So I decided to delete all of my profiles for these sort of sites. I'm not posting any pics at this time.

I think having a picture matters as it's nice to see who you're talking to.
I suppose I am lucky in that my wife and kids are grown-ups and just 'tut', roll their eyes and smile.
If a local recognised me, then great, something we have in common or they wouldn't be here themselves.
If discretion is a must, why not have a happy, clothed profile photo and any nawty pix put in a hidden photo album that only you control as to who can or can't see?
