Have you ever heard roof changeable tattoos?
I was reading about this changeable tattoo system. It basically works like this. They install a programmable device under the skin. If any of you have had a pet microchiped it is simular but on a larger scale and it can be changed with this scanner type device. Okay, so after you have this device put under your skin you have this scanner type device that you can now program with seemingly endless choices of tattoos (as long as they are size appropriate to the implant you chose to get, which can also be changed and enlarged or removed). Anyway, you pick whatever tattoo you want and run the scanner over the area where you have the tattoo device under your skin and ,presto chango....you have a tattoo. Oh and it gets better. Lets say you don't like that or you are going out and it doesn't match your outfit...No problem, just wave the scanner again with whatever you program in and again you have a new tattoo. Or if you go home to Mommy and Daddy and they would freak if they saw a tattoo wave the magic scanner and make it disappear. Lets say you are going shopping and you don't have paper to write your list...no problem again scan it right onto your body.
The scanner is only about $150.the implants generally run $500-$1,500 unless you want a custom or larger than normal device under your skin. It actually sounds great in theory. And they have this all on the market as we speak.
I have only had 2 objections to tattoos. 1) They tend to be very permanent and I have learned through the years that what I thought was hot at age 20 is not so hot at 50. And 2) The pain involved in getting one and worse to try to cover or remove one.
By the way, this also resolves the long standing problem of what to do if you get a persons name tattooed on you and then you break up. Or what if something is misspelled etc...
Okay, so it sounds great except for the price right? NOT SO FAST! As I kept reading I was thinking ...a doctor only charges $500-$1,500 for this? These days I would expect much higher. In the advertisement it made it SOUND like DOCTORS INSERT THIS UNDER THE SKIN....but that is not exactly the truth. As I read more about this...When they say "medically trained professionals" they are not talking doctor even a nurse. It seems that most of this is being done by people who consider themselves "subdermal specialist" otherwise known as tattoo and piercing people who also do things involving under the skin insertion. They are NOT REGULATED. Insurance does not cover this and many doctors won't touch it because malpractice insurance policies won't cover them if something goes wrong. Now keep in mind when they chip your pet it is one single needle and generally considered safe if they were trained how to give this injection under the skin in the proper location. I have been told it quite easy to learn and do. However, this is a bit more involved. They need to cut a slit in your skin. Then separate the layer of skin properly to insert the device that is like inserting a thin piece of plastic under the skin in various sizes, some being quit large. This must be done properly. Then they have to sew it up according to what I read. Then you have to heal about 2-3 days. After reading that I would never do that unless under a doctors care.It also didn't say if there is anesthesia involved. I am guessing only topical due to not being a medical professional. Or my second guess would be they tell you to get totally trashed or stoned before you come in for this so you won't feel a thing.
Good idea in theory but in my opinion they need to make it much safer before I would do it. I also wonder if there is any danger long term to having a device that is essentially a sheet of plastic under a pretty large portion of skin. Could the skin die for example? And of course the obvious question of infection? I know with some medical procedures when they they insert things, sometimes things attach to skin that shouldn't and that sometimes becomes a pretty serious complication.
