Wild Fires at Fort McMurray, Alberta
There have been wild fires around and in the city of Fort McMurray, Alberta since Tuesday May 3. Over 80,000 people from the city have been evacuated. Some went South to Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary while others went north to other locations to escape the fires. Many homes, businesses and hotels have already been destroyed by the fires. One fire hall had to be abandoned due to the fires advancing too close. The hospital had also been evacuated and the patients transferred to other hospitals throughout Alberta. The fires are very difficult to control due to the extreme dry conditions and high gusting winds. Over 250 firefighters are currently fighting the fires but they are in a losing battle. More firefighters from around Alberta are on their way to help. Any donations toward a relief fund for those people who have lost their homes and businesses can be made at www.redcross.ca. Any assistance will be very much appreciated.

Re: Wild Fires at Fort McMurray, Alberta
There are now over 1100 firefighters trying to contain the blazes. A few subdivisions of the city have already been lost and the fires are spreading quickly.

Been kind of following this. My heart goes out to all those effected as well as the firefighters. What a horrendous thing to have happen. My prayers are with you all.

Re: Wild Fires at Fort McMurray, Alberta
The fires are now moving east away from Fort McMurray toward the province of Saskatchewan. It now seems that Fort McMurray is out of danger of more fires but there are still many hot spots and some neighbourhoods were completely devastated. It is going to be a long time, could be weeks or months, before residents will be able to return to the city. There are people on site reviewing the damage, putting out hot spots and determining what is safe and what isn't so this process can take some considerable time to complete.

Just got back from there...We won some ,and lost some.

I'm still alive in case anyone was wondering?

I read the responders may be suffering health issues due to being ill equipex and inhaling smoke. Issues which may shirten their lives.
