People Are So Two Faced.
Years ago I ran across Johnson Lake on horseback, a little while later they pushed a logging road around it.
It supposedly has the clearest water in North America, so the Government put a campsite on one end, and someone built a fishing lodge on the other side....Even the Kamloops trout are a bright sky blue....There was a sunk boat at least 40 feet down ,on the bottom, and I could clearly read the manufactures name plate.
For 20 years it was a pristine peaceful place set far enough back in the wild, to remain intact...more or less for the nature lover.
The story is....Two months ago, someone posted how nice it is on a site that I will call "FreakBook"....
Every asshole from Vancouver, Surrey, and Washington State, decided it was a good party place....A short 4 or 5 hour drive.
It is now barren of half the trees on it's shoreline...And is a garbage dump of massive proportion.
The pure white limestone sand beach has garbage that travels 30 feet out into the water...The lodge owners cannot keep up to the filth and refuse thats left behind every weekend across the lake.
With the fires going on here ,Forestry cannot commit the manpower to police it, and they say it may get even worse.
The really sad part is....All these people come from a place that they would never consider littering , they all recycle, and buy Green products..and if someone dumped a load of garbage in their yard, they'd call the cops and press charges to the full extent of the law.
Shit ,they'd post how it traumatized them on "FreakBook", and expect the world to "Like" it.
And they have the arrogance to call the people who live here primitive Rednecks.

Re: People Are So Two Faced.
People just don't have respect for anything anymore. It is not on there property so they don't care, someone else will pick it up. The adults do it so they are teaching the kids it is just fine to do it. I am sorry to hear that is happening there. It sounds like it was a beautiful place to visit.

Well they just flew in 20 concrete barriers to block off the back of the lake with helicopters.
It was done under the Backwoods Fire Prevention Act of BC....Some Rancher volunteered his time unhooking them when they were set in place....Don't ask me who he was, but I'm told he's good at lifting heavy things, and kinda ruggedly handsome.

First opened in 1952, Johnson Lake Resort is nestled on the shores of Little Johnson Lake.
"Johnson", "Little Johnson" ..... hehe..
I guess it does not help they only have cold running water!

Re: People Are So Two Faced.
This is a story told over and over and only the location and names change. My entire family SCUBA dives and it would shock most people to know what we see in our oceans and lakes all over the world.I love what they did in Cozumel, Mexico. The water is considered a National park. It is preserved and cherished. There are so many rules that are strictly enforced. Every diver/snorkeler/swimmer that enters the waters pays $2.00 each day you enter that goes to funding the enforcement and care. But you also can't do things like dive with gloves. That keeps people from touching or taking coral. That's one example of the things they put in place but there are many more.It sounds like they need to do things like that where you are. You might also want to contact a few groups. Divers will be more than happy to do underwater cleanups. We do them all the time where I live. Trust me NJ has more nasty stuff dumped in our oceans than you can imagine. However, it has improved a great deal. You can also contact some scout troops. They live by "Leaving no trace" and when possible, "Leave it better than you found it". Then get your equivalent to game wardens to get heavy on ticketing and arresting those assholes and I bet you will see the partiers will decide to find an easier place to fuck around with.
I do understand the absurdity of it all.I have a family member who moved to the mountains and lives in a community that was all log cabins and mostly listed as a historic site being the cabins were built in the 1800's and it was also a large Indian area so much of the stuff in the history books we read in school happened there. He loved it from the second he found this home. Then he found as the years went buy that he would have people move to the area that were a bit....STUPID!They would move there for the beauty and nature, then complain about the deer eating their flours and the bears going through their garbage that they were to stupid to put in a bear proof container.(Which is highly recommended in his area)They would go to town meetings demanding something be done. "The deer and bear need to be killed off!" hey would even complain about the squirrels and raccoons , chipmunks etc..When the town leaders would explain that these things come with living out there these people are enraged and most wind up moving but unfortunately do much damage to the area before they go. Some have poisoned animals or tried shooting some of them which is obviously illegal in a residential area. One even tried putting in PLASTIC FLOWERS! I swear I couldn't make this up. Sometimes it embarrassing to admit we are part of the human race when I see how stupid some of us are.

Nope they have a hot water tank now...I used the shower just last week, so no shrinkage.
Do you Google everything I say?...And Little Johnson is just a widening of the creek.....The term "Little Johnson" should never be used in a post of mine...It may give me performance anxiety.
I was there in 99' for the first time.. but they have made huge improvements on the resort since then.
