Re: Roku
I love it and saves a fortune over cable. I am thinking of switching to it at my house but I have so many things that are similar(Apple tv, chrome, and several other devices that get the same services) it might not pay for me. The other problem is even with an antenna I can't get local channels here so I am debating the best way to go for my house.

Re: Roku
u have not had ANY tv service in my apartment for over 2 years, i just recently found a way to get a few local channels, but the reception is spotty at best. some times I'll get one channel and not another one, and the next day is the opposite. i'm pretty sure with a Roku all the local channels will come in.

Re: Roku
Roku is a great way to go. there are things that are lacking from it but they are getting the channels people want pretty quickly. As the networks are pulling away from cable exclusivity contracts it's getting better. The cable companies are desperately holding on to people by having them get their internet connections through them but that is changing as well.At some point all your services will be through the internet so you wont have a cable company, phone company, internet company, cell phone company etc...We are close already. The consumer demands are changing. I remember when HBO said "We will never offer our service as a stand alone." They have eaten those words now.People got tired of the cable companies dictating what they had to take and the crazy prices they were demanding. When Roku and a few other companies said "we will change things" the cable companies laughed at them because others have tried. But Roku is laughing all the way to the bank as is Netflix and Amazon.Programing is also changing dramatically with scripted programing and top stars being able to get away from the restrictions broadcast TV and the censors have killed them with for years. Now they can be as creative as they want with much less restriction on the new shows on Netflix, Amazon, internet etc. It's a great time for entertainment.

Re: Roku
it's great, but has a few flaws. sure, i can do a search for movies or tv shows, and find almost everything i look up. but quite a few are pay per view. $2.99 adds up fast. but i still find a wide variety of free stuff too.

Roku runs from $40-$100. but once you buy it, it's yours. and you can choose from over 2000 channels (some free, some are monthly rates like Netflix or Hulu)

Re: Roku
More and more content is getting added to the free line up all the time. If you can be patient and wait until your shows and movies are one season behind or in the case of movies been out for a while they get moved over to the free stuff.Kam has had it for a while, I think its 2 years and I've seen great changes. My mom has had it longer than that. More and more people are switching over. In my area its still a problem because even with the digital converters and antenna we cant really get the local channels without cable and satellite doesn't work well where I live either. However with many local channels now streaming live its almost to a point I can loose cable except for my Internet service. In my area they are still the most reliable. The reason the cable company gets away with so much in my area is because they know they are the only service that you can get everything and be reliable. The service rarely goes out. But the customer service sucks! And the prices are very high. When something goes wrong be prepared to be on the phone for 2 hours or more.
