never work with family...
i watched an episode of "the People's Court"...a guy hired a company to paint his house. the compoany was owned by his cousin. $5,000 was paid. the painter made a mistake and somehow the wrong house got painted. the defendant claimed that he shouldnt have to re-imburse, because "it wasn't his fault" that the wrong directions were given, and in turn was counter suing for $3,200 to cover the cost of repainting the house that was painted by mistake.. the Judge ruled for the plaintiff.

So there is an 1800 dollar annoyance fee for family members to paint your house.
I gotta start doing that when I sell my family beef.
And for the record, my Dad and I could never work together, but we've had a close relationship since I left the family businesses.
It was funny how after I left he had to pay a guy 25 dollars an hour to drive nails ,but he figured I was only worth 10 bucks an hour.

Re: never work with family...
NEVER EVER,work with family and close friends. There are some exclusions but rare.I worked with and for some close friends. some worked out great some not so good. I worked with a guy I became really close to. A few years in, I was at work at the bar he ran. That's how I met him so it's not like he gave me a job as a favor to a friend. I have a rule that is, at work we are boss and employee and outside of work we are friends.I cut a guy off. The guy went to him and made a big deal and begged him for another drink. I always told all my bosses that they back me up or, either I will quit or you can fire me but if you don't back me up, I won't work for you anymore. He gave the guy a drink. As soon as he did that I came out from behind the bar, got dressed and left. He was in shock. He said "I can't believe you will walk out on a friend." I looked at him and said "I'm not walking out on a friend. I walking out on my manager who didn't back me up."
He didn't believe I meant it when I said i quit. Then he came to see me at another bar that I started working at the next day and asked me to come back. I felt it was better to not work for him if we were to remain friends so I said no.
As for working with family...we would kill each other if we had to work together in most cases. The only exception is that I did work with my one brother through the years in various aspects and he has worked for me a few times. We were in similar business so sometimes I hired his company and prior to that I worked for him to help out from anything from a PA to being the talent a bunch of times. But we get along really well and work in a similar way.My other brother and I wouldn't last 10 seconds before there would be a war! My sister and I are very different and not sure how we would work together but we do such different things I couldn't imagine a time we would work together. We would not do well in a family business.Kam saw us together for a few days and Disney may never be the same. Ask him what he thinks would happen if we worked together. I bet he would laugh at that thought.
