Cowboys and Palm Trees
The price of beef is at an all time high, and come the end of October, I'll be shipping them off.
If I predict right, I may have a few extra dollars in my pocket. I,ve never seen palm trees and white sand, I've never been served Margaritas by a hour glass shaped Seniorita, and I,ve never been shot at by a man named Juan.
I'm trying to decide on a trip to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Belize, or Mexico.
I found an all inclusive package on all destinations....and they all include alcohol, so based on the alcohol consumption alone, it's a good deal.
What destination should this inexperienced Canadian decide on ?
I just really need to get away from here, and have someone else look after me for just one freakin' week.

Re: Cowboys and Palm Trees
It depends what you are really looking for. My brother just got back from Costa Rica. He said it was okay but didn't get the whole "it's a great place to go " thing. Kam's aunt and uncle were kidnapped in Costa Rica as well so I guess that would not be my first choice. Belize is one of my other brothers favorite places to go at least it was but not anymore and he travels all over the world. Again it depends on what you are looking for . We all like SCUBA diving and if you are into that Belize is supposed to be one of the best in the world. Being he did many videos there for several networks I have say it looks amazing. My mom also said it is an amazing place. The problem is it is just not that safe these days. Then there is the Dominican Republic. My brother goes there with a big time VIP and he loves it but I doubt most people get the treatment they get when they go there so I can't say how it is for the average tourist. Most people do say it is really nice but I understand there are some issues with safety there as well. Mexico.. I happen to love Mexico but it depends where you go. I love Cozumel. I am not as much of a fan of Cancun. Cancun has more to do if you are looking for nightlife but they have been having problems with Americans being attacked and robed and even kidnapped there. What I don't like about it is that it is like the Jersey Shore in the summer time. A lot of drunk teenagers! Not my thing. But there are some nice things to do there if you choose Cancun JUST BE CAREFUL. So Cozumel Mexico is my choice, again due to the SCUBA diving and LOVELY people that live there. Although not as much as it used to be but is still reasonable priced so you get a lot of bang for your buck there. If you want a place to be able to stick a flag in the sand and have someone bring you a drink and go SCUBA or snorkeling and just having a relaxing time with some of the nicest people I have ever met, Cozumel Mexico is the place I would recommend. There is a reason Jacques Cousteau loved it so much.

I have some distant family in Belize, as well as Uruguay and Paraguay, they own very large ranches there.
I'm not that concerned about the safety thing because I don't intend to leave a resort all that much...They won't allow me to transport my lever action onto the plane.
The scuba diving would require me to swim, and I've never mastered the skill,.my Doctor says its a muscle mass and bone density thing. I just sink like a stone.
I've never heard of Cozumel, and I thank you for the recommendation...I'll look into it.
Oh...and Belize IS on my bucket list...I've looked at buying a small property there.

Re: Cowboys and Palm Trees
Sounds like Belize is the place you will wind up at. And believe it or not you do not have to swim to SCUBA dive although I strongly recommend that you should be able to although some SCUBA places will teach you even if you can't swim and fear sharks etc...
Cozumel is one of my favorite places in the world and about a 20 minute boat ride from Cancun if you really wanted to see Cancun. If you decide on going to either place let me know and I can give you some recommendations.

I'll need a pair of boat shoes or sandals as well...cowboy boots and shorts would make me stick out just a little.

It's the funny tan line those boots leave that everyone makes fun. At least when you said The Hawaiian look you didn't go with coconut bra and grass skirt. But I have a feeling it wont be your boots that make you stick out. Just remember that jails outside of this country and Canada have a pretty scary reputation.I don't think they take American Express to bail you out in Mexico or Belize.

So....First week of December I'm going to Cuba, and that country doesn't take American Express...but they'll take my damn Visa.
I've gotta shake the habit of carrying an edged weapon, I need to make it through airport security in Vancouver....Why is it I have the impending feeling there's a cavity search comin' on?
Oh....And the resort I'm staying at is a five star , adults only, and the beach and pools are topless.
It's going to be a great 8 days.

The travel agent listed all the water sports when I walked into the office to pay them, and she said that they should supply life vests.
I told her that if I didn't book next year, she could assume that I didn't make it when my kayak tipped over.
I also bought shorts for the first time in my life...Burnt orange background with massive white flowers ,and blue leaves. They are long and baggy so's I don't embarass myself near the topless pool.
I also bought a small pile of cotton shirts from the Gap, I've never shopped for clothes in a store that doesn't sell leather saddles ,and animal feed .
Now I gotta find a pair of sandals that come in size 14 clown feet.
...and Yes!! I'm looking forward to having a stress free 8 days where I'm not the Boss, not making decisions, not worrying, not managing....just getting aquainted with the fine taste of Rum, served by a dark skinned, smiling Seniorita while wearing my new shorts, and sunscreen.
I just know I'm going to get hit in the head ,..by a falling coconut.

Sunday around 6:oo p.m. I'll be flying over top of you guys.
If you look overhead at the right moment, there will be a hatless, drunk cowboy with a Jarhead haircut, and a dumbass Canadian grin on his face waving hello.....and taking a leak out of the emergency exit.
I've booked a private tour of some of the sites in Varadero as well as Havana the next day..with a pitstop at a cattle ranch, tobbacco plantation,...then a Rum Distillery.
Did you know that Cuba doesn't have a single freakin' strip club in the entire country?...But they have thousands of bars....I'll check out a few..that is, till I get arrested and sent home early.

Okay Cuba is not considered a "Vacations Spot" for Americans but I am more concerned at Syb picking a place that isn't exactly known for listening first and acting later if he gets in trouble. Some people have to go to a place they are least likely to get in trouble. I'm just not sure a man who isn't the best at holding back should choose Cuba. Lets hope he just drinks enough to pass out. Cuba may never be the same.

Oh I drank enough rum to only get in trouble twice....
Did you know the Cuban Army doesn't think its funny when you buy to much Rum to get thru Canadian Customs.
So I went into the jungle to bury three bottles to drink next time I go there.
It seems that they were there looking for some drug smugglers that had floated in from the ocean and saw me burying something, and two big black dudes dressed in Army fatigues came from the undergrowth from behind me.
I guess they didn't realize you can't sneak up behind me that easily.
They really hate when a Big Canadian Rancher stands up, and can't understand a word of Spanish as they rush him from behind, and takes those two foot clubs they were carrying away from both of them.
After fifteen minutes we sat down in the bush and drank a bottle and laughed it off.
I've got a feeling the rum I left there won't be there for my next visit.
My other experience involves me taking a piss at a urinal, and two Chamber Maids hitting on me using very broken English in the mens bathroom ,while im still holding my dick.
Thats never happened to me before.

Well...there's about three days that run into each other and get kinda fuzzy.
Yes there was many topless gorgeous women,...and a few that....well ,maybe shouldn't have gone topless.
I did walk alone for a few kilometeres down the white sand on the shoreline at night, but I was alone with my bottle of white rum. There were no mountains, so I had no landmark to find my resort, so I got misplaced for a few hours.Eventually some very nice German girls pointed out my resort to me from the shoreline, so I had a few drinks with them. My high German is kinda rusty,...and low German is a turn off for them ,as it is a peasant language. So I wasn't exactally batting a hundred there.
I did go kayaking and mistook a floating pile of seaweed for a man eating great white....The Lifegaurd said he thought I looked like a cartoon character ,because of how fast I was paddling.
I learned a lot at the distillery about turning sugar cane into Rum, and had a long talk with the head Distiller about moonshine...he wanted to introduce me too his three daughters.
I was blown away at the red soil at the tabacco plantation and was invited inside their home for a cigar and a cup of tea, but the language barrier was tough to get a conversation going.
......And then there was Havana, two dudes tried to pick pocket me, but I had made them four minutes before they tried anything, my tour guide couldn't believe it.
I told him I deal with wolves and grizzlies trying to sneak up behind me, two shitheads with backward baseball caps and stupid looking faces don't have a chance.
Annnnnnnnd....the reason I wasn't posting much about it was the fact that I entered a 300 year old hotel ,...and there were Americans staying there on a educational work Visa.
The Cuban government makes them wear dogtags around their necks, identifiying them as from the U.S.....and it bothered me quite a bit.
I didn't like the fact that in order for them to go out in public, they needed to be marked.
I loved it and I will go back, but I had no idea that there isn't even flights from the U.S. to Cuba...and that my dear friends here ,are not welcome there...I thought of you all quite a lot.
And you tell that ridge running OneHornee that I was born in the wrong century anyhow....and look who's talking!
You can also tell him I'm glad he is still around to annoy me,..and that I miss that gap toothed Hillbilly ,that has mustard stains on his sleeveless shirts.
Although...just like myself...he has fantastic taste in women.

I'd also like to add that the people there, once they realized I was Canadian , were some of the most decent people I've ever met. They are friendly and helpful, and I will, without a doubt go back again.
There is every type tone of skin under the sun there, and no racism...and if you discount the women called Jinetera's, a dude with light coloured skin, in decent shape ,and blue eyes gets hit on every hour by a twenty something year old looking for a different life.
I met probably a dozen Canucks who had been there, thirty or more times, some of them vacation there three times a year.
Cuba with it's environment, palm trees, party scene, and friendly people, was very addicting.

That would require me taking off a life vest in order to sink below the water....Which isn't a problem for me.
The problem lies in me resurfaceing.....My giant head acts like an anchor.
So no...I didn't snorkel....or swim into deep water.
Even when two topless German girls tried to drag me out into the deep water....Yeah ..I stood there like a pasty 5 year old wetting his pants.

Re: Cowboys and Palm Trees
Unbelievable? Even with a pair of life saving flotation devices, you still would not wade in past your ankles! !!
Sorry, two pair.

You always look like a five year old that just wet his pants.
He never could swim very well, while we all would be swimming, he would be laying on the beach trying to catch some sheep.
I mean sleep!!

Baaaa....haha..
Do sheep swim? If yes, they have a chance. Although, one would think with those big ole size 14 fins of his, he would have an advantage?

Canadian sheep will LEARN to swim, if they know what's good for them...the middle of the lake, river stream, whatever, is probably the safest place...since Syb can't swim...

Re: Cowboys and Palm Trees
I'm not sure if he told you guys, but two years ago I bought him a set of those kids water wings for Christmas.
The strange thing was ,he thought they were a sex toy .
There are times I think he was switched at birth and he may belong to those families that live back up in the hills and like to lick lead paint.

Re: Re: Cowboys and Palm Trees
QUOTE (newbie1011 @ October 4, 2014, 04:49)Sounds like Belize is the place you will wind up at.
Yes, you can just sink with your scuba gear on.

Cuba with it's environment, palm trees, party scene, and friendly people, was very addicting.
