well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
i may be absent from the site for a while. i am facing eviction from my apartment, and don't have a clue as to where i'll be living. it's really hard to pay rent when you don't make enough money to cover it each month. it appears that i will be homeless for a while. thanks for everything a,d all the good times and great friends i've made on this site. i'll be back, i just don't know when.

it is, but it still sucks, because now, i HAVE to continue to pay my rent on time, and that means i'll have maybe $150-$200 to live off for the entire month.

You can always start stripping for an extra income.
It pays cash ,and has some fringe benefits , although getting your back waxed may chew up your 150 you have left....but you can look at it as a future investment.
Oh..and there is no dress code, or uniform to purchase to go to work either.

Yeah but something tells me it was an 8' x 12' room with a concrete floor, and the bed was bolted to the wall.
I'll bet they didn't allow you to wear a cowboy hat either.

There are usually some private foundations that will help with utilities and sometimes even rent. The food pantries know all the helping hands and are happy to give you the information.

If you haven't already...sign up for food stamp help! the knife in the back here is...i pay my taxes like everyone else, yet i can't get any assistance with food stamps, because my GROSS income is too high, i make too much money each month BEFORE they take out child support, taxes, and health insurance. i never really did understand how the can base it on GROSS income, it's not like we get to spend every cent that we earn.

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
i had an interview at Hy-Vee grocery store two towns south of here, a really good friend of mine is the kitchen manager there. i've known him since he was 14 (so it's been about 11 years), when he was 15, he got bumped up from dishwasher to cook at the restaurant where we both worked, i pretty much trained him on the basics of restaurant cooking. so he knows i know my way around the kitchen. he's pretty pissed, because although they did offer me the job, they wouldn't give me the pay i need to make it work. they offered me $1 less per hour, with 5-10 hours less per week than where i am at. so i had to decline the offer. he tried like hell to get me in at what i need, but they think they will find someone cheaper. he's been asking them to hire him some help for months now, and by not giving me what i need, he has to wait even longer, and feels that the person eventually hired won't have the experience or skills i do. he understands where i'm coming fro,. it would be different if i didn't have to drive 35 miles for the job. where i am working now is two blocks from home.

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
I have been where you are. It sucks. No one ever expects to be a hard working person then get the rug pulled out from under you. Mine was from a combination of car accident, divorce and disability. No matter the reason it kills you. I am impressed that you pay your child support in a day that many parents don't even do that. It is fair to ask for a reduction in your child support for change of circumstances. The courts will do it for that even in an emergency situation like you have. I believe it's called the same thing everywhere "Order to show cause". They will hear it the next day.You don't even have to hire a lawyer if you feel comfortable doing the paperwork and going to court yourself. It's called "Pro Se". The court clerks can give you all the information you need. I've done it myself for many issues.
Good luck.

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
i have the paper work here, i just need to get my shit together and get it sent out. the courts here won't do it, i have to do it myself. but i can't deliver them myself, i have to have someone not involved in the case mail it out, with a signed affidavit stating they they did, and the date it was mailed. and there is no way in Hell that a judge won't reduce it. i am making less money per hour than i was at my old job, and as it stands, after support, taxes, and health insurance are taken out, it usually means roughly a $350 paycheck every two weeks. and seeing how my rent is $475, one paycheck doesn't cover the whole rent payment, so it's split between the two paychecks, at about $240 every two weeks. $350 minus $240 leaves me with about $99 to live on per two weeks, and when my kids are here, i can spend that much at the grocery store for the three days they are here. i was hesitant to do it at first, because i know my ex will freak when she get's the papers. but when she calls me to bitch at me, i'll just say, ok, i guess the kids will either live in my car with me, or starve....ok, my rant is done.

your not alone, I just got my letter that they are coming to remove my propane tank in 15 days. that will leave us with out heat , stove and oven. all because I filed a complaint about being charged 100 bucks for delivery twice this winter, so what they really did was rip off my fed and state fuel assistance which was my last 100 gal that I should have in the tank now, we are on fumes, to keep things running. some times it seems like all ya do is fall though the cracks..

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
i hear ya both...the funny thing is, i've tried for housing assistance, and am on the state list for rental assistance, but i'm number 53. it was the end of April when i found that out, and it means i have a 6-8 month wait. but, even though i'm on the official list, my current apartment is not qualified, because the rent i pay, is below the minimum limit they can pay. so that means when my number come up, i've got to move (which wouldn't be a bad thing, if it means i can get in to a two or three bedroom for really cheap). and when i tried to get into the local income based housing, i was told that i am not qualified, because i live alone (even though my kids are here every other weekend, they are set up for families. i was told that if i had a room mate, i would be able to at least apply, and i still may not qualify based on both of our incomes). i really don't want a room mate, unless it is a woman that i consider my girlfriend....it's just too hard with the kids here on the weekends.

yeah MA, i hear you, but at least you still have Pa's income, even if it's not all that much. and i know it'll get better, can't see it getting much worse. i'm going to job hunting tomorrow, there's an Aldi's grocery store a couple of towns south, when i went grocery shopping with my sister, i noticed a sing stating that associates start at $12/hr. and the last Happy Chef left around here is there too, and THEY have now hiring sign posted too. and with my experience, i'm hoping it's a cooks job, and that they aren't like every place else and will offer the pay i need and deserve.

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
One of the big problems right now is that they all complain they can't afford to pay a decent wage and most people can't afford to live on what they want to pay. And the government has such strange rules. I love when they say things like "You have to be 200% BELOW poverty level to get this benefit". So basically poverty isn't broke enough for the governments assistance programs. Considering they choose what poverty level is I find that amazing. And each program has a different number as to what percentage below poverty they want you to be. They also ask you for information that is really none of their business and and shouldn't be allowed. They bury you in paperwork and appeals so you give up and say "It's not worth it". I shouldn't even get started on how they talk down to you and act like they are doing you a favor and that you are a thief or asking for help. It's getting to the point where the average person just can't afford to live , even in the simplified world.

my biggest issue is that if i were a woman, a immigrant, or physically or mentally handicapped, i would have not trouble getting help. but i am a white man , capable of working full time. (and i'm not trying to sound racist, sexist, or just plain ole mean. that's just how i see it. i mean, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of hard working Hispanics, Asians, African Americans around here, but when i see someone who can barely speak English, driving a brand new, fully loaded Cadillac, wearing the top designer brand clothing? and they don't work more than 40 hours a week? getting a $1,000 for rent and food assistance each month? and i'm busting my ass working TWO jobs, one 40 hours, and the other from 30-40 hours, and i can't get help, because i make too much? ranting again...oops.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would know that what you're saying isn't political, racist or anything of the sort. I know myself from trying to tap into widely promoted programs for Small Business expansion or start up. I didn't qualify for any of them for the same reasons you cited. I remember being told "If you were a one legged, pregnant Hispanic female, they'd be throwing boatloads of money at you. It's not sexist, it's not racist, it's just reality. Sad, but true.

Re: well, it may be time for a brief goodbye...
I feel for you and don't know if this makes you feel any better but FYI...I am legally considered 100% permanently disabled and 15 doctors from various agencies said so, yet, still got turned down until finally a Superior Court Judge on appeal wrote a 12 page decision blasting all the idiots turning me down.Yet an insurance company still tried to say I wasn't disabled until I said "Really?...See you in court! I'll bring the other court decision with me." They finally backed off. So even disabled women get turned down. It took me over five years just to get the first real decision and another couple to get the insurance company to back off.Yet when I applied for food stamps they tried to turn me down because I "wouldn't work".I had to go through a lot and they finally gave me I think it was something like $37.That was after me demanding a supervisor include my court decision in my file.
My son had a very serious health issue and earned about $2,000 for the year. He was a student at college but had to come home when he got sick. But because he was an adult he had to apply for benefits himself. They said $2,000 a year was OVER the limit for assistance. I said "That amount was $2,000 he made not $20,000" She said "Yes, I know and he made to much."I couldn't understand that.
I have even been told as recently as last year when my daughter was applying for financial aid at school. Now keep in mind this came from the head of a financial aid department at a pretty pricey and upscale college that she was excepted too."If you or her father, are or were undocumented aliens or convicted felons we can give her a full ride and she will owe nothing!" I walked out of there furious.
