Wondering If I Still Have It
Last night, I was asked to perform at a Music Festival that raises money for people (not just women) that are coming out of abusive relationships. I haven't played live in about 5 years and acts come from all over the Northeast and Canada to play at this event. Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous.

It was what you were born to do...Talent doesn't just disappear, it refines with time , practice, and experience.
You have something to say, and they want to hear it, and like a chosen few....you say it so very well.
You are also a Man who dislikes abusive behaviour, they chose a fitting performer.

Thanks Guys, I always appreciate your support. Actually, I'm proud to be a part of it. I've attended this event before and there's all kinds of players there. I'm just concerned that people are gonna say "What's that old guy doin here
?"

Yeah but I ejected outta my saddle with grace and poise, it wasn't the perfect dismount, nor a perfect landing, but this "old guy" got back in the saddle.

Again, you guys are the best and I thank you! I found out 2 more things about this yesterday. First, a good friend of mine, old band mate and a great player has agreed to sit in with me. He made me laugh when he said "what better way to find out if we still have the 'magic' than to play in a bunch of drunk people?". Second,I found out from the promoter that the whole event is going to be streamed live in high quality online. I'm not sure how that's gonna work because there's 2 stages playing simultaneously, 1 inside and one outside. I chose to play outside.
Since my buddy has agreed to sit in with me, I will say this: Jen, I will do "Handle With Care". And Kiss? I'm gonna put your theory to the test about my song "Everything Is You". I still have your email that says "Free? That song could get you laid". Details to follow after the show.

So if you have a song that Kiss figured may get you laid, perhaps you should have titled this thread,
"Wondering if I Can Still Get It "..That being said, how would it sound in a Gravely voice and a Canadian accent ?

I havent put anything on youtube in quite a while. It's all on my reverbnation page. And Kiss is right, I dont share everything I do with everyone. I dont want to be like a kindergardener wanting my latest finger painting to be put on the refigerator. It's like anything else, some are good, some are ok and some are forgettable. But the last one I thought was really pretty good

Just went through the first rehearsal. Considering the fact that we're doing 3 covers and 9 of mine that my buddy hadn't heard before, I think it went fantastic. 2 more rehearsals before the show. It's T minus 11 days before the show, so I'm forgetting about all the legal, business and personal bullshit that I've been going through and focusing on this little event!

Sorry I have been MIA for most of this. Free as you know I have a lot of friends that are professionals in the music industry and I can't think of any that don't get a bit nervous before a live show. I have a friend in the Jazz hall of fame and still see him post on his page from time to time that he gets nervous.That just means you care enough to worry about it. It has nothing to do with if you "Still have it". Those who do "have it" know it's not something you lose.It's something inside. I always wished I was as talented as some of the people I know. I guess I have my talents but it definitely is NOT in the music world.Music is part of you. I had a friend tell me once it isn't really about if other people enjoy it, although that is a bonus to be able to share something so important to him.He still plays all the time after all these years and is lucky enough to get paid for it but as he said he does it for the love of it and would do it weather they paid him or not.Think of it like those who sing in the shower....They sing because they love it? But many of them (me included) would get paid NOT to sing in public. But it doesn't mean they shouldn't sing. You are fortunate enough that people want to hear you, so get out there and kick ass!By the way, if they ever need someone to clear the place out... I don't charge much and one note from me and the place would clear out fast.

Sometimes I did a little PR work on a boyfriend's gigs. I compared it to being a Rodeo Clown. I would wear somethin' a little short, tight with cleavage, zero on a group or two of rowdy girls, make friends, buy them a round or two of shots and set them off. Nothing gets a party going like a a bunch of cute drunk rowdy girls that wanna dance. Then I would hang and dance with a few guys, intergrate them with the drunk rowdy girls and the night would go very well. Yep, I could work a room.

Thanks Man, last night was the night. It started off a bit rough. It was 85 degrees and 90% humidity and I had the sun blistering on my back. I brought 2 of my guitars, one of which was brand new and I hadnt plugged it in yet. Bad move. It didn't work, but we mic'd it up instead. I was a bit nervous because I had't played in front of anyone in a few years, I was a touch hung over and the guitar thing put my blood pressure through the roof. But after the first song, everything was fine. I did mostly originals which were surprisingly well received. When I thought my time was up, the sound guy told me that the next act wasnt there yet and to keep going. I wasnt sure about the song, but I figured "fuck it, just do it" and I did Leonard Cohen's "Halleluiah", and I just let the song take me over. I guess I must have done something right because not only did I get a standing ovation, but when I stepped down, as bathed in sweat as I was, people I didnt even know were hugging me and saying how much that moved them and gave them goose bumps. It was a pretty amazing experience
