Bucket of bolts
What was the worst car you ever had to drive?
It's a toss up for me, had an old Maverick that I had to punch specific areas of the dash to get certain things to work like the speedometer, radio, etc...it had a terrible shimmy too.
Had a Corsica, hit two deer with it. I was going back to school at the time and the only work I was doing was tearing down old cabins to re claim the logs, and I was a picker long before there was ever a TV show about it. I couldn't afford to maintain the car very well, used tires so I was always driving home with the donut spare on.

Re: Bucket of bolts
I had a 96 Dodge one ton diesel...It went through 3 front ends, five transmissions, one rear end, and countless other parts. It only had 340,000 klms on it. I've owned 3 other Dodge diesels with the Cummins motor and they were not to bad, but that one was hands down a total piece of shit.
I have a 75 Ford 3/4 ton as well for fire wood..it ran flawless, one day it started smoking under the dash, then very quickly there were flames, I grabbed onto the dash and pulled it from the windshield....It seems that a squirrel lived in there and built a nest...I wasted a 6 pack of Pepsi putting out that fire. I've never had a problem since with it.
My new GMC diesel is in the shop right now getting a new door, and paint....A cow head butted my passenger door and caved it in. I mean I can't believe the cow walked away from the impact with no injuries...I love that truck but it's amazing what a 3 thousand dollar cow will do to a 50 thousand dollar truck.

Re: Bucket of bolts
almost every vehicle i've ever owned has had its issues, from the 79 Mercury Monarch (my very first car) that blew a main bearing two weeks after my final payment was made, to the 96 mustang that the had a broken wire on the brake switch for the cruise control (normally when you are using cruise, and step on the brake, it shuts off. nothing like having your car speed back up to 65 mph, in the middle of a turn...), and sadly, my 1997 Intrepid that i've driven for the past 11 years has finally decided to go to that big junkyard in the sky the sad part is, i'll only get around $190 for it...

Re: Bucket of bolts
My worst car is probably the one I miss the most.
I had a 1982 camaro, white with red racing stripes that the kids dubbed my candy cane car.
When the tornado went through the property I lived on it lifted up over my car and left it without a scratch.
Every hundred miles or so, I'd have to stop and put water in it. I finally traded it off for an extended cab pick up.
The people who got it paid ridiculous amounts of money to the shops trying to find what was wrong with it. Finally, they replaced the motor and found a hair-line crack, that no one could see with it in the car.
I still regret giving that one up.

Re: Bucket of bolts
i regret giving up my 74 Nova Hatchback, that was a sweet ride. i was stupid, and bought a new engine for it, the "best engine $200 can buy" or so i was told, that $200 engine cost me $800 by the time it was all said and done, when all i really needed to do to the original engine was replace the rings and gaskets. i would have loved to keep it, but shortly after we got the new engine put in, the transmission started slipping, i didn't have a place to work on it, and needed something reliable to get back and forth to work with. i traded it in on my 96 'Stang. some kid got a great car for a good price, with less than 500 miles on a new engine.

Re: Bucket of bolts
My first car was I think a Dodge Dart. I don't have a clue as to what year it was. I do remember it was Iridescent Lime Green. I was always able to find it in a crowded parking lot.It also had an issue whenever it rained. It would leak so bad that the car would fill with water. I tried to look at the good side. It was like getting a foot bath whenever it rained but I had to remember to put my shoes on the seat so they didn't get soaked. The strange part is there were holes in the floor but just not where the water collected. It got so bad I finally took a screw driver and punched a few more holes in the floor. It wasn't very hard to do the metal was so thin that I probably could have just pressed hard with my heal and have put the holes in it that way.It ran real well though. I remember the guy I got it from. He was a friend of my Dad's who owned a service station. So he made sure it was safe and ran well. Right after I got the car the guy hit the lottery for $86,000,000 and retired. lol I am trying to remember how much I paid for the car. I think it was $400 or $500.I don't even remember why I got rid of it.

Re: Bucket of bolts
I'm going to show my age. My first car was a 1953 Chrysler
Limousine that I bought from a funeral home for $90.00. It didn't run but me and the boys got it home and did surgery
and got it going. It seated nine and ran like a top. It was great for car load night at he drive-in movies. Pull the back seat out and the middle folded down I could get my Harley in there for my spare. When I got it, it was all oxidized and nasty lookin. But with a wax job that car shined like a diamond in a goats ass. OCB Traded it for a 1955 Chevy nomad that I wish I still had.

Re: Bucket of bolts
Even though there are reliable , low maintanence cost vehicles, they all have the potential to be costly and a POS.
I've found that the older cars I've bought are much more dependable than a newer one bought used.
Currently fixing stuff on a 1969 442 I recently bought. Mostly maintenance items so far. The person I got it from definitely did not lie when he said he wasn't a mechanic. The person before him did take care of it, including writing down what he had done to it. Unfortunately, he neglected to write down mileage or the date when the stuff was done.

Re: Bucket of bolts
My worst car was a Chevelle 4 cylinder. It could barely make it up a mountain. Best is my current one, a 2001 Toyota van. It just goes and goes and goes. And the paint job is still good! Second best was a Buick Skylark, until a flood cracked the engine block.

The only car I've ever owned was a 1970 Candy Apple red SS Chevelle...had a 454 in it, and got me into more trouble than I had haying money to make bail..a lot of 19 year old blonde Dutch girls lost their virtue in that back seat before I was twenty...I never did sell it...it kinda folded itself around a telephone pole on a wet road.
