anyone have ideas?
i have a friend that adopted a Basset Hound from a rescue center a few years ago. Spike is 12 years old, and for about the last 6 months or so, has been passing gas something fierce. she has done everything from changing his dog food, to limiting table scraps, she has given him Beano, and Tums (per vet instructions). she gave him some probiotic yogurt, she finally took him in to see the vet and he was given medication to treat campylobacter. it seemed to work for a short period of time, but the last few days, he's been stinking up the house again.

Re: anyone have ideas?
The gas is a characteristic of the breed. I would go with NO table scraps as to just limiting them. Changing the dog food was wise, but may require a few more tries to find one that at least will lessen the problem.
Maybe another trip to the vet to re-test for Campylobacter. It's possible that one course of treatment may not have completely knocked it or the dog is exposed to a source and is getting re-infected. There are usually other symptoms with Campylobacter.
As I said before, there may not be any cure, it's a characteristic of the Basset breed so keeping a stock of a very good air spray odor neutralizer is probably necessary. Good ole Lysol works well, I think another brand is called "Oust"
