Re: summertime out there
I know I may be the only one, but honestly I love snow. But yes eventually I too get cabin fever (happens more now that I am single ) but that is why I love in NY - change of seasons each has its own special beauty

Re: summertime out there
I was snowing in the morning then raining in the afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be more rain. At least it's not snowing. I don't care as long as my plane gets out of here. I will be in AZ for a few weeks and a few days in Vegas. Then I come home for a couple weeks then back to MI to be with Kam for about a month. If it wasn't for my kids I wouldn't come back here at all anymore. Okay maybe I would come back for a visit once in a while but it wouldn't be in the winter.

Re: summertime out there
Got caught between two avalanches outside of Whistler...spent the night in the truck with my dogs, and a bag of peanuts for dinner...woke up at 4 A.M. to an RCMP officer in a helicopter sent to " rescue "me....but he wouldn't take my dogs...said I had to leave them behind.
So he was told to " Fuck right off "...he was about to leave and I asked if he had a shovel in the helicopter, and he wouldn't leave that with me either...I was half asleep , but he said something about "Redneck stubborness and stupid enough to start digging my way out, and big enough to maybe get halfway...and something like finding my body in spring..."
He also informed me every highway in British Columbia was closed down to all travel.....and what the hell was I doing this far out, and how did I get that far in the first place ?
They sent an excavator out and cleared 3 slides to get to me...You know...Interior roads don't like it when you build a fire on the pavement, in the middle of the highway...
Nice to be back....

Re: summertime out there
Did you get the body wash and scrub puff before or after the avalanche. Every year in Colorado we lose half a dozen to avalaches 2 last weekend, but they are people that go where they shouldn't. Lost a good friend on Wolk Creek Pass some years ago, he was the seocnd plow driver the first made it he didn't and three and four had time to stop. Didn't get him of the truck till june.OCB

My survival kit consists of a leatherman, lighter, and an uncommonly inventive and adaptive mind....I'm not real good with numbers, or theories...but I'm decent at using my surroundings to my advantage.

Re: summertime out there
Damnable Syb you almost make me feel guilty when I complain about cold and snow. We get flurries compared to you. But honestly I can tell you are no boyscout. If you were you would add a few things to you little survival kit. Duct tape (because apparently it fixes almost everything),WD40(it fixes what duct tape doesn't), electrical tape (because its good for uses like duct tape but everyonce in a while you just cant use the damn duct tape), flint and steel (never know when you have to start a fire) and a damn shovel because you live in the middlle of know where and at the rate your going some day it sounds like at very least you might need to dig your own grave.
That being said I know I should feel bad leaving my kids in the froaen world they are in at the moment and Kam in his frozen world, but it was in the 80's here in AZ and I was sitting outside most of the day and didn't feel guilty at all.

There were 3 days of cold. Now Florida is back to being warm and sunny.

Heard yesterday in town that the Coquihalla highway got 9 foot of snow in 10 days...which is why they call it the highway through Hell...Good thing nobody lives there..the only building up there is called the Snowshed, where they used to collect the toll. It is built like a brick shithouse , to withstand any avalanche...I believe they haven't had so many closures in one winter for 30 years , it was closed more than it was open.

Re: summertime out there
So it is very much Spring now...an older retired guy dropped in today, and said he was the first to go fishing out on the lake...There is a large open patch of water on the lake ..right down the middle...According to him ...,he saw something swimming through the water, and he powered up his outboard and spun around to get a closer look...He claims that he floated right up to a swimming bear,..and of course just it's head was sticking out of the water....And I thought well so what ? I've seen that myself more than once...He said that this bear was really big...and in its mouth was a frozen ten pound ham...with the shrink wrap and label still on it....Lock up your freezers if you keep it on your back porch...It's spring time, the bears are awake..
