Any piercing will result in swelling. It's the natural process of an immune system to repair damage to an injured body. Ice is not needed unless you need help to stop bleeding. Let it heal naturally, the main thing is like any wound to keep it as clean and sterile during the healing process. Try warm baths with a few tablespoons of salt. The recovery time varies from person to person, but a couple of weeks should be fine. If there is no infection, then don't use any creams. Just keep it clean and occasional toying with the jewelery to stop it sticking, as that can feel uncomfortable.

I would definitely follow the instructions they have given you if you went to a reputable place with a good reputation.My kids all have piercings ans do most of their friends. Some body parts are more likely to get infected than others. Swelling is normal as long as there is no infection. ICE does help swelling. It also tends to fell good because it tends to numb pain if left long enough. Be careful not to leave on to long or directly with no towel or other barrier. Ice can actually "burn" you if not careful.
