Re: water beds
I think that most people either outright got rid of them or they've put other mattresses in those frames. I know a popular thing is using an air mattress.

Re: water beds
my friend had one, until he let his Weimaraner in the bedroom...the dog jumped onto the bed, and five minutes later it looked like a sprinkler had been set off...the dog apparently was in need of a peti-cure...

Re: water beds
Sure and when you're done setting up the waterbed take a nice soak in your hot tub time machine.
(That was a pretty funny movie)

and as I remember...lots of snow bunnies in spandex.
If I ever met the dude who invented spandex , for women to wear....I'd shake his hand, and thank him.

Clearly spoken by a guy who doesn't walk around a Walmart at 3 in the afternoon. I still have visionary nightmares of Bertha in her spandex and hair curlers, while wearing a ripped t-shirt that reads, "I Brake 4 McDonalds"...

Re: water beds
I had mine until 3 or 4 years ago. I gave it up kicking and screaming. I miss it but it was just getting to difficult to find things needed for it. Then when it got a leak that I couldn't patch I knew it was time to move on. I tried several different kinds of mattresses before finally choosing my memory foam mattress. I have to admit I love it and no worries about leaks. It took a while to get used to it. But all memory foam mattresses are not the same. You have to find the one that is comfortable for you.

Re: water beds
that's one thing i miss about it , being cool in summer , the Mrs loved it in winter, i was think on the water bed or a electric blanket for her, then i go look at king size and want to set the water bed back up for a hundred bucks. we still have all the sheets and stuff , guess ya can use them on a reg mattress, but the satin ones don't stay on too well... oh also the cats too it was their favorite place to snooze

Re: water beds
Up here we deal with radiant cold a lot...which is why we use radiant heat, or a woodstove...I'm afraid that if I went away for say, Christmas. Then the heater got unplugged from me tripping over it, and the temperature dropped to -42, I'd be sleeping on a 2000 pound block of ice.
Trust me....that shit happens to me.....on a regular basis.

Re: water beds
I had the opposite happen to me Syb. The heater broke and I came home and though I was having hot flashes at a very young age at the time. By bed was almost boiling. Then I decided I was going to be able to slide the heating pad out from under the mattress without emptying it first. Lets just say I'm glad no one has that fiasco on tape. Needless to say it didn't go well. Besides even if it worked I still needed to get the new one back under the mattress. Do you have any idea how much a full California king waterbed mattress weighs? I don't know what the number is but I promise you it's a lot!
