Ride Off into the Sunset..
So as most of you know , if you've spent any time with me in the Lobby,I'm on a weak satellite signal , actually it's sent through a repeater to a main distribution box ..then out to a satellite....and acts alot like a dial up system.
The satellite technology is being replaced with a cell signal to read pressures in the Alaska Pipeline...this cell signal isn't available to me....actually...there is NO cell signal available too me.
The repeater is used to send the signal to the satellite system, then sent to the satelite receiver, because of the tall mountains surrounding me, that I call home.
So it seems that I will no longer have service for my internet, and this will cut me off from family, business ,and friends...including all of you.
I have known about this for many months, and I'm not real happy about it, as the company that has provided me with this service , did so because their pipeline runs through my range..being an American company when they took over the pressure regulator contract....they would do just about anything to keep the Redneck, Hillbilly locals happy.
It seems they have forgotten that fact, and they have no obligation to provide me with service.
I'm not sure when this will happen, but probably by the first week of November, and there will be no warning, it will just shut off, and I'll be gone, you see, I have no alternative options ...except moving..and I love my land, and have friends that are like family buried here. So I will stay
I intend to not cancel my membership here....you all are to important to me.
There are those individuals here that I have shared my most private thoughts with, and they have shared theirs with me,...and you know who you are and how I feel...and I will miss you with all my heart.
I most certainly don't want this to happen , but my hands are tied, I've explored every option.
I suppose the next few weeks will be a time of saying goodbye.

Well this sucks, totally sucks. You have a witty sense of humor that I enjoy , & knowledge of culture that we both share. It seems with today's technology there has to be another option. Can't you buy your own satellite & launch it,?

Re: Ride Off into the Sunset..
Yeah.....I'll talk to NASA....
There is no option when you live in a valley with 3000 foot mountains on all three sides of you, and they are only a kilometer apart .....
Man I didn't get any sleep last night, I was avoiding the subject, and thought if I brought it out in the open it would be better....I was wrong.
It just pissed me off even worse..
There are no satellite signals that are constant enough to give me communications, not even a weak cell signal....unless I ran a tower up to the top of a mountain and ran cable...that would cost me 40,000.00.
I've tried testing Telus 3G and 4G signals, several different explore nets, hell I,ve even looked at running in fibre,...that was 120,000.

I'm usually the one sticking my 30-30 trapper into a squatters face...the ranch North of me is the largest in the world right now, and owned by the Saudies..it is for sale for 54 million...same price as launching my own satellite.

I already live two weeks from everywhere..
If I move to the states...it'd be a hell of a commute,...and someplace hot..and with palm trees, I've never seen one inside of North America.
My land and the animals on it are a part of me, my mountains that feel like a prison right now, they are a part of my whole existence...I could never move from here...I would simply die.
Later when I'm gone, perhaps a few will share my back yard with the ones that don't know...so you will understand.

You'd have to see where I live to believe it...the satellites path crosses the short distance ..from peak to peak.
We know all this from satellite phones fighting fires, they work everywhere in the world ,..except in the Northern Interior cariboo mountains and bottom valleys, some of the Sierra Madres..and the Himalayas.
The signal is spotty at best for maybe an hour a day.If your on foot you just simply advance your elevation until you have a few bars,...I'd have to move my homestead to a higher elevation.
Our mountain ranges here run the wrong direction, and are bigger and more vast than I could even attempt to explain, they are so high, there is snow on 13 peaks year round looking from my living room window.
