our system is upside down
I have been dealing with Corporate America for the last several weeks on a variety of issues. Property leasing, computer problems, and communication products in general. I had four on the phone at one time, Baltimore, Toronto, Rochester and Denver. I will never be a business leader of any kind. They are good at their specialties but in general to get to the top you have to have no conscience, no principles and be a damn good liar to boot, their word is non existant. I have lived where a man's word was as good as Gold and a hand shake agreement was rock solid. If you operated like the big business in a farming or ranching community you would be a disgrace and run out of the community. If not found somewhere with a big hole in you.
When my word or my hand shake becomes no good I don't want anything to do with the fortune 500 or even the fortune 12.
it hurts me inside to see what it takes to be make Corporate America Run. Sy maybe you and I need some more anger management schooling. OCB

Re: our system is upside down
All I learned in Anger managment was that the number of ceiling tiles didn't match the number of floor tiles.....and there wasn't one girl to talk to.
...and Yes ! ,my handshake is like giving my word, and I expect the same in return....as a matter of fact...thats what caused me to end up in anger managment in the first place. Someone shook my hand and tried to run off with my money..then I laid my hands on him, and like a weasel, he hid behind other men , and the law.
I figure the good men are hard to find,...but thats because he's out there banging nails, pouring concrete, or riding his fences.

Re: our system is upside down
I understand all of that OCB. I work for a major company and I found out the only way you can get any place in the company is to Belittle and scream and holler at people, throw things, call people names and do NOT do your job. If you are nice and polite and help others, Go above and beyond your job you get stabbed in the back and treated wrong. I just do not get it.

I agree with both you and OCB. However. Isn't easier on your posterior to ride a house instead of a fence?

When my dad was young, a handshake was as good as a signature ... those days are gone. Now it takes a lawyer & signature on 15 legal papers to make a deal

Re: our system is upside down
I've found handcuffs & whips seem to work very well in my anger management training.

Re: our system is upside down
I have worked in corporate America as has my family and I can't agree with you in total. There are those few who would shock you. I happen to know one in particular that was a great guy and did so much for people and did it totally anonymously. He is even in jail now because of his sons but he would never turn on them even though they deserve it. He should not be in jail.He has helped more people than most would ever know. I only know because of my position in the company at the time. It would actually shock most people if I told you who it was.
I do know that that guy is not as common as we would all like. I feel the lawyers have made most people the way they are. Everyone is either afraid of being sued or they sue everyone.I don't feel using the law is bad but I do feel abusing it is.
I do agree that people are not as honest anymore. My grandfather had a business years ago. I'm talking maybe 45 years ago. He went through some bad times and had to claim bankruptcy. He never did anything with a contract back in those days. It was always a handshake. He told all of his vendors and other people he owed..."I will get back on my feet and pay you every single penny I owe you. Not what the court says I have to pay, but what I actually owe you. That is my promise." With in a year he had done that and had the business thriving again. This was a man with a serious heart problem and no extended family to help him. He had three daughters. He believed in hard work, honesty and integrity. Unfortunately those are things that are just not in the family teachings when people raise their kids these days.
I just know I have raised my kids to have the same work and life in general type of mind set as my Grandfather. So far it seems to be working. We can only hope there are more that are also doing the right thing. The good thing is can say many of their friends seem to be on the right track as well. We can only hope....
