Infomercials
Infomercials really started to go mainstream in the mid to late 90's. Sure there were some before that, like the Popiel Pocket Fisherman or knives that could cut through an anvil like butter and never need sharpening, but they weren't as prevalent. And since then, they've become a powerful way to sell everything from vacuum cleaners to sex toys (not to be confused as being the same product). We've seen some interesting people and products come and go. I miss Miss Cleo saying "Call me now" and Billy May screaming about Oxy Clean.
