Re: Advices from An Old Farmer
Don't mess with a mans fence, livestock, or family...if you find yourself considering either one of these...remember the measure of the man you are about to offend.

Re: Advices from An Old Farmer
From the immigrant grandmother of a neighbor farmer I use to live near...
"Don't be wearing your coat indoors, you won't feel the good of it when you go back out"

Re: Advices from An Old Farmer
On the eighth day god looked down on his planned paradise and said" I need a caretaker."
So God made a farmer.
God said "I need somebody to get up before dawn , and milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper, and go to town to stay up past midnight with a meeting at the school board.."
So God made a farmer.
I need somebody with arms strong enough to rustle a calf, but gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild. Someone to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry,..and have to wait on lunch, till his wifes done visiting and feeding the ladies, and tell them to " come back real soon "and mean it...
So God made a farmer.
God said " I need somebody to sit up all night, with a newborn colt...and watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say 'Maybe next year'...I need somebody who can shape an axe handle from a Persimmon sprout, and shoe a horse with a chunk of car tire, who can make a harness out of haywire , feed sacks and shoe scraps....and who, by planting time, or harvest season , will finish a forty hour week by Teusday noon,...Then paining from his "tractor back" will put in another seventy two hours..
So God made a farmer.
God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed, to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds, yet stop in mid field and race to help when he sees first smoke at the neighbors place.
So god made a farmer.
God said "I need somebody stong enough to clear trees and heave bails. Yet gentle enough to tame lambs, and wean pigs, and tend to the pink combed pullets..who will stop his mower for an hour to tend to the broken leg of a Meadow lark.
It had to be somebody who would plow straight , and plow deep, Someone who would not cut corners.
Somebody to seed , weed, breed, feed, and rake, and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece, and strain the milk, and replenish the self feeder,...and finish a hard weeks work with a five mile drive to church..
"Somebody who would bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, Who would laugh , then sigh, and reply..with smiling eyes.., when his son says ' He wants to do what his dad does' "
So God made a farmer....
