Speling Lessuns
The Forum section needs a grammar guardian. Grammar is feeble and the spelling is horrid. Please, people, at the very least you can try to get a handle on the basics. As I signed in, I saw a post stating that the writer is "knew" here. People write, "Let me know if your interested." If my interested is what? "Your" is possessive. "You're" is "you are." Snap to, get a clue.

Re: Speling Lessuns
welll...what do you expect from a bunch of hornee peeps? obviously, you understood the gist of their sentiments...and a lot of members use their cell phones, that have auto correct features that cause misspelled words.

It can be difficult to type correctly one-handed. Besides I type like I talk. It's part of my charm.

Re: Re: Speling Lessuns
Poor spelling can cause great offence. To get a flavour of this debate we should analyse the purpose of spelling. Writing is a labour as we manoeuvre to get a flavour of our thoughts communicated. We must recognise that it is a pretence to believe we can do this faultlessly. A dictionary is a catalogue of agreed words but is lacking in the colour and humour that truly expresses our thoughts and feelings, so we should not apologise for putting diversity and change at the centre of our language.

You know it's funny...With technology come frustration. I have to argue with my computer a lot since it does its own spell checking. I yell at the screen a lot when it tries to tell me there's a, "U" in colour. NO U IN C-O-L-O-R!
and as far as checking our spelling? Just be lucky we don't take a lesson from the, "Cupcake Generation".
"So when r u goin 2 the mall? ill meet u ther." I actually read a job posted resume written in this short hand...and they wonder why nobody takes them seriously?...

I guess that would depend on what lessons "U" are interested in.

1) How is it that two different members posted identical replies? (GG317 and wanderingStar).

2) How does typing left-handed cause one to misspell?

3) Often, I, too, write in the same vernacular as I speak. I take no issue with that way of thinking. Explain how that would apply to a person who says he is "knew" here.

Don't even get me started with punctuation. I did a term paper about six years ago on, "Subliminal Advertising". On my first draft, my professor, a staunch woman, who looked more like a librarian than a professor corrected my paper. I think she used all the ink in her red pen, just on the 30 page report I did. The second draft was way better, with less red marks, but some of the mistakes I created, originally were corrections she made on the first draft. I pointed this out to her and got an icy stare. On the final hand in, I got an A-, because it had punctuation errors in it. I went back to the original and second draft to compare. Just about every third or fourth place I put any punctuation, she corrected it back and forth and back again. She was a professor, and it seemed that she couldn't tell where a comma went any better than where I would use one. When I told her, showing her the other two, she stated something about not being able to change a final grade that had been logged into the system. Complete bull... I got back at her in a way... On the systems computer website, there was a section where you could rate your teacher by review. I wrote nothing, but good stuff about her, except the whole paragraph didn't have any punctuation in it. I started off the first sentence with a capital letter and the end of the paragraph with a period. Good luck to those having to read that winning endorsement...

I am neither omniscient nor without fault. However, I am able to converse with anyone from an infant to an octogenarian physicist without coming across as either condescending or unenlightened.
If someone misspells a word, or ten, in the excitement of being on a site like this...Well, we are exciting. What can I say? I believe I will forgive them. I think I might of been excited a time or two.
