Re: the pits
Those would be seeds of an orange. Oranges, grapefruit and limes are not cold hardy. They need planting in a sunny, southern exposure area which can be protected during severe cold or plant in a container which can be moved to a protected area.
Since citrus grown from seed has a fairly long juvenile period, it will take about 7 to 8 years for it to flower and potentially bear fruit.
You can speed up the process by germinating the seed. Have fun!

Re: the pits
It's 50/50 it might grow and the odds it beares fruit that far north makes the odds less (around 5 to 10%) it ever bears fruit. I knew of a few that you can grow indoors, so I looked them up;
The Dwarf Washington Navel
Mandarin
Valencia
and The Blood Moro
The last one is really good, I've tried them before, the pulp is dark and discolored like a pink grapefruit if you cut one open. They say they taste like raspberries and oranges together, but mine must have been too early in picking for that. Still it was really good. I was reading about them and if your thinking of planting a tree indoors for them, you'll need a lot of room as oppose to the other three. They get to 3 to 4 feet high as well as around...

Re: the pits
yep , i would bring them in for the season like the rest, we tryed the cherry tree, it would get inch worms on it so we spray it till someone on a mower ran it over,, the peach on the other hand after we planted it , lasted 4 seasons and then died , maybe the 45th is too far north for them. the peach was nice , the leaves even smelled like one ....
