1. Dig a small hole in the ground.
2. Insert a straight piece of something, preferable wood, incase you feel the need to walk into it later, into the hole.
3. Cover it up with the remaining dirt, stamping it down with your foot, for extra stability.

If you're not wanting a fence post, but a new lamp post then you'll have to lay down the wiring unless you're replacing an old lamp post with a new one then I quess the wiring is already in place.

As a man who's inserted thousands of fence posts with a three point hitch post pounder, you can take it from me...
The better , and wetter the ground, the faster the pounding.
