Hillbilly trending
I've spent my whole life (including of course all my years here) being quite proud of my hillbilly heritage...now TV is trying to exploit hillbilly in the same way it has exaggerated the redneck image.
Geez, I expect to see preview ad for "Hillbilly Housewives" soon.
Just gonna say, there are some shows/characters that are a more realistic depiction of the Ozark and Appalachian hill folk.
Mountain Men from the History Channel features an Appalachian man, and I can't remember the channel but there is a series called "Hillbilly blood; A Hardscabble life" which is NOT drama filled but pretty interesting.
Regardless of trends and fads I will remain as always appreciative and proud of where I come from

been watching mountain men wasn't too impressed with it, and they were from all over , Montana and Alaska too. seemed like it was on the whining side. same with shipwreck men too that was a little better but not by much...
heck , its like" escanaba in the moonlight" next we will all be drinking moose-nut milkshakes just poking fun at the yuppers.

I too am proud of my country roots, known as sloughters where I hail from. I watched the Honey Boo Boo show three times - I really tried to give it the benefit of the doubt - OMG talk about offensive to Hillbillies, Rednecks and Country Bumpkins everywhere! It honestly made me nauseous.
But I do like Duck Dynasty!

I haven't watched Honey Boo Boo, I just can't... I can't get past the commercials ad promoting the show.
There is a new show premiering, Hillbilly Pranks (or Pranksters) not sure of the title, might check that one out.

well, actually, hillbilly life has been glamorized in the media ever since the days of Jed Clampett, Oliver and Linda Douglass, Uncle Joe Carson, and the Bradleys (Billie jo, Betty Jo, and Bobby Jo)
i've even seen a commercial for FarmersOnly...a dating site for farmers, ranchers, and country folks. no city slickers allowed.

Re: Hillbilly trending
Here we call ourselves Mountain People.....some were born here and never left, others come from various walks of life to get away from the city bullshit.
There is one person living on the Illahee meadows that seems to be hiding from something.
There are Lawyers, Doctors , University Profs., even Artists and Musicians here, living in a common bond of wanting to be left alone, but desiring the same life style as the Hermit down the road.
In summer the People from the Fraser Valley invade our lakes and mountains, fishing ,Littering, and setting forest fires. The gates and properties get locked up and we wait for colder weather to drive them out. Many of the Vancouverites say they would love to live here.....if we had cell or phone service, high speed internet, paved roads with no cattle or cattleguards, only 3 feet of snow in the winter, garbage pick up, mail delivery, grocery stores closer than 100 klms.....and lets not forget a starbucks.....
Go ahead and call me a mountain man, cowboy , or hillbilly.....I live in Gods country, I answer to none.....and I wear my freedom like a crown.

You impress the hell out of me Syb - you are as my dad would say 'a real man 's man' - but I will admit I love all the attributes of people like you, but I have been sucked into the convenience society. I was raised such I know I still COULD do it if I had to, but I like my iphone, and wireless and only driving 15 miles for groceries. My little piece of that heaven is simply not having neighbors within earshot of my bedroom window, or eye shot of my back yard. But god it does sound beautiful where you live Syb!!

Re: Hillbilly trending
Ha! Love OOMG's response of mountaincowbilly!
Yeah, we got city tourists here during the summer, it's beautiful out this way, plenty of antique shops and wineries.
Tourists are kinda cute sometimes, they'll snap up something from the antique shop at full asking price snickering about how dumb we must be to sell so cheap...ah Sweetie, you're thinkin' city prices, out here...we have barns and sheds just full of that stuff. The shops are making a very good profit, dontcha worry about that!
Some of the city tourists are pretty annoying, they are so loud, maybe because they have talk over a lot of noise in the city.
I love my tiny town, (pop. less than 400) but I do miss the farm, and cherish any time I get to go back to the hills.

Re: Hillbilly trending
For Chazzy.
Two informally dressed ladies happened to start up a conversation during an endless wait in the LAX airport.
The first lady was an arrogant California woman married to a wealthy man.
The second was a well mannered elderly woman from the South.
When the conversation centered on whether they had any children, the California woman started by saying, "When my first child was born, my husband built a beautiful mansion for me."
The lady from the South commented, "Well, bless your heart."
The first woman continued, "When my second child was born, my husband bought me a beautiful Mercedes-Benz.
Again, the lady from the South commented, "Well, bless your heart."
The first woman continued boasting, "Then, when my third child was born, my husband bought me this exquisite diamond bracelet.
Again, the lady from the South commented, "Well, bless your heart."
"What did your husband buy for you when you had your first child?" asked the Californian.
"My husband sent me to charm school," declared the Southern lady.
"Charm school?" the first woman cried, "Oh, my goodness!! Whatever for?"
The Southern lady responded,
"Well, for example, instead of saying, "Who gives a shit?"
I learned to say, "Well, bless your heart"!!
