Elvis Has Left The Building
I woke up around 5 AM and Nick At Nite had a re-run of Full House on and John Stamos was doing an Elvis impersonation. Then I was watching Lois and Clark and Perry White is obsessed with Elvis. The Beatles loved Elvis. There's Elvis impersonators everywhere. Personally? I never got it. I dont like any of his music. In fact, I dont know why he was as big a deal as he was. Bob Dylan is another one. I just never got why people idolize him

Re: Elvis Has Left The Building
I never crushed on the guy personally, but I'll say he had a beautiful voice, especially on slower songs and ballads.
Did have a friend who was an Elvis freak, she wasn't from that generation either, but loved and bought anything Elvis, loved all his movies, all his music...never understood and she could never really explain it.

Poor Syb!
I guess Elvis describes him best:
"A well I bless my soul
What's wrong with me?
I'm itching like a man on a fuzzy tree
My friends say I'm actin' wild as a bug
I'm in love
I'm all shook up
Mm mm oh, oh, yeah, yeah!"
On a lighter note, Elvis was NO Gene Chandler!
"Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl". Threw this last in as an aside to the royal birth just announced today.
Elvis may have been King. But today's post got trumped by a Prince!!

He is an excellent lyricist. He is an excellent poet. He was an integral influence on social and cultural change. He was a voice for the ordinary man or woman and he provided them with a power that they would not have had otherwise. He criticised government policies on their behalf in language that they consider to be effective. He was and is an outspoken critic of war. He has produced a huge volume of work. His songs have resonated with an enormous number of people worldwide. You don't have to like him but these are some of the reasons why people idolise him.

Sorry Buddy. He never wrote anything. He sang other people's words. And as Ive said here before, I dont care who you are as a musician, an actor or anything else that makes you a "celebrity" , do your act, sing your songs and shut up. We dont need to know your politics.

Re: Elvis Has Left The Building
Elvis has become a favorite of mine. when my ex was pregnant with the oldest, and the baby was active? i would put my head on her tummy and sing "Can't Help Falling In Love" to my unborn child. instantly, the baby would calm down. but, Free has the right to voice his opinion. he's not a fan, just like i'm not a big Beatles fan. never did understand what all the hoopla was about. Lennon couldn't sing (in my opinion)...

Re: Elvis Has Left The Building
I didn't dis him, I just never got why everybody made him out to be such an icon. He was a real big deal when I was a kid and I was a sponge about music and musicians back them. I would check out everything that the current buzz was about. Kinda like when your mother would make you at least try certain foods. If ya liked it, ya kept eating it. If ya didnt, ya spit it out. DJ's, trade mags, and other artists were all talkin about Dylan. So I checked it out and didnt really care for it. I didnt see the deep meaning in the lyrics the way people were talking about and thought the music was just ok. That's just my opinion. I thought there was a lot of other music that I preferred to hear.
He actually played here last night and I know a bunch of people that went and were excited to see him. I heard from several that the show was so abysmal that they'd rather have a root canal without novocaine than to have to sit through that again

It wasn't the pop culture of your time. You have a hard on for John Lennon, but a lot of people don't. Dylan was a folk singer. He sang about the good and bad of his time. He's 75 now and of course he's not what he was. But think of who followed his lead. Lennon, Neil Young, Springsteen. They we're and are original, political and topical. And something tells me you are into all of them. Those who followed Elvis are a different vain. He was a front man for a lot of writers no one would have heard of. Carl Perkins and Little Walter to name two. If Elvis didn't exist would Linda Ronstandt or Joan Jett have been anything but club players? Most of what both did and are famous for are covers. What groups and how big a fan were you at 18 give or take a couple of years?
